Motored from VT to ME

My wife and I took Nugget out for a two day trip from our home in Vermont, thru the mountains of New Hampshire to another sheep farm in Maine. We avoided Interstate whenever possible, and had an absolute blast scooting along the Kancamagus! We didn't speed (well, we generally followed the 10% rule) but discovered with glee that the passing ability of the normally aspirated Mini Cooper on mountain roads is pretty impressive! And oh how I love the roar of that little guy when he hits 5000rpms!

What's really cool about the MC is how easy it is to maintain a legal speed on a twisty road and leave other vehicles in the dust...a little more with each curve. What a delightful little car! The only downside is that in two days driving in three different states we didn't see a single other Mini!

Sounds awesome - someday I hope to be able to drive through those areas on the East Coast.

When we picked up the first MCS in New Hampshire we had such a long road trip ahead (to Cali) that we didn't really nec get to take the best driving roads along the way like that funny named one your mentioned due to time constraints.

Any pics?

I'd really hoped to join that portion of MOT, but heavy rains here in Vermont washed out our road...so I spent the weekend on the tractor doing some repair work. Next year for sure!

Last fall we toured the NE in our MC. Had a blast, and like you avoided the interstates at all costs. We went from Lake Placid, NY to Portland ME via VT and NH. I must say that it was some of the most beautiful contryside on the trip. That and the twistys were fun too.

Boondox you've got some good twisties in VT yourself, I had fun last summer up on Rte. 100 near Warren (Sugarbush), etc....At MoT some of us were talking about the Dragon run in early May down south, that maybe we should get an "honorary" Dragon run going up in VT at that time, as a MoT warmup or something.....mebbe you and the other Vermonters would host us flatlanders??????? <hint hint>

Funny you mention that. My wife and I were looking at the map thinking that after several more such road trips (must be able to speak from personal experience, you know) we might be able to come up with a big loop taking in all the best roads of northern New England. And of course the next step would be to share that experience with others...

Let me know if you go up to Northern Maine

MINIs are a rarity up there - my parents live on a lake - Eagle Lake to be exact - about 15 miles from the Canadian border. I'm boarding Air MINI on Wednesday and hope to be up there by Thurs June 30.

Lots of good roads in the St. John Valley - not many State Troopers (although I wouldn't go too much above the speed limits up there) - You do need to watch for moose! They are a serious hazard up there and typically 20 or so people in the state of Maine are killed by them. My mother saw eight last night and she almost took out two of them.

I ahve been out of the internet world for the past two days but will most likely add two more days because I just flew to Colorado Springs to pick a red 1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster. so far today i traveled about 600 miles.. amazing eh? this darn thing is more reliable than my twincharged MCS! and most likely gets better gas mileage! only filled up twice today!

Well if you are ever around the St. Albans and/or Burlington area, look for a little BRG convert.

Cool! Haven't been to St Albans in years, but we make a Costco run to Colchester monthly. Since it's combined with tool, cheese, wine and hardwood shopping, we make half a day of it. So far in this area we've seen a CR MC with Jasper vanity plates, another CR MCS with white bonnet stripes and Purple Heart plates, a BRG/B, a silver/black, and an all black. There have been a few others, but all with out of state plates including one from New Jersey who didn't wave and should therefore have his MC confiscated!

Look for LY/W with FO PAWS plates if you ever get to the Stowe/Waterbury area. Pete
