OOPS! Zaino Accident!
OOPS! Zaino Accident!
My father is one of those guys who's impossible to buy gifts for and this year I was really stumped for Fathers Day. I mean -- sheesh, even I was getting tired of giving him the same old Sears (read: Craftsman) gift card every year
. But late last week I thought of the perfect gift: I would treat one of his cars to the full tip-to-toe Zaino spa experience! So early this morning I packed my car wash stuff, Zaino stuff, and four big fluffy white 100% American-made cotton bath towels into Miranda's boot and headed off to my parents' house in the foothills.
I told my father I was washing his everyday car, a 1996 Taurus, as my gift to him. Letting him think he was getting a carwash when in reality his car was about to get Zainoed(!) was my surprise
. So I did the Dawn wash, and the clay, and schmeared the car with Z-5. I started to realize how really small a MINI is compared to most other cars -- such as a Taurus
. Every 10 minutes or so one of my parents would come out to say that the car looks really nice and that's enough, really. They aren't used to "carwashes" that take longer than 10 minutes
, but then they don't know Zaino!
I had the Z-5 all buffed out but I wasn't happy with finish on the hood (this is a Taurus, they don't have bonnets) which seemed to have some streaks. So I draped one of those big, fluffy towels over the hood and started rubbing really hard to try to get at the streaks when --
-- I jammed my right pinky up against the windshield fluid spray thingy!!!
To make a long story somewhat shorter, I finished buffing the Z-5 and applied the Z-2 left-handed, my right hand plunged in a bowl filled with ice. My broken right pinky is now in a splint, so it may be awhile before Miranda gets her summer Zaino treatment.
And the Taurus looks terrific!
Please blame any typos in this post on the gimpy pinky...

The pinky will heal but I was worried that something in the Zaino burned through the paint job on that Taurus glad to hear it turned out well.
BTW, that was a very sweet and thoughtful gift you gave your dad but it doesn't sound like he really care's that much about his "ride".

My father takes very good care of all his belongings, including his cars, which is in part why it's so hard to buy him gifts... his stuff lasts forever! For some reason though he was of the opinion that a car with a clearcoat finish does not need to be waxed. Whether he still believes that or not is a moot point, since my mother loves the "new" Zainoed car. No way she'll let him go nine years between wax jobs now!
So... the gift might not have been so "sweet and thoughtful" after all...

Wait a minute
... was that a slam on my "dexterity"???
Sorry to hear that man, what a way for a good idea to blow up in your face.
My dad drives a black Saab 9-3, and having never owned a black car, I'm scared to mess with it.
But that's a good idea nonetheless.

Omg, someone forgot the before and after pics!
How do you sleep on pics when it's your pops birthday? :D That would have 'immortalized' the gift, because he'd have a pic on the wall of the day he got the best wash evah!

Well, my mother reports that she got a speeding ticket in the newly Zaino'ed car. Not sure if it's because the car is now so much more eye-catching, or because the slick finish makes it faster...
