Please post to this thread if you're living in Colorado and are MINI afflicted.

Some things that might be interesting to know about each other:
- Do you have a new MINI and/or a classic Mini

For new MINI owners
- Did you buy from Schomp MINI? Or out-of-state?
- Have you met any other MINI owners?
- Are you coming on the MINI Drive on July 27th?

For those future owners:
- What is the status of your waiting? Have you ordered a car, are you still waiting for your slot on the waitlist to come up so you can order? Are you on a waitlist yet?

I'll start.

I purchased my MINI Cooper S out-of-state at Westchester MINI, but my experiences with Schomp MINI have been very positive since getting my car a month ago.

I'm actually helping Schomp MINI organize the group drive scheduled for July 27th. From the feedback we've had so far, it sounds like there could be a significant number of MINI and Mini on the drive. I pre drove the route over the weekend and it was breathtaking - especially trail ridge road.

Hello There,

I bought my MINI on June 19th from Ralph Schomp. Everything went smoothly.

I have not met any other local owners yet.

I do plan on coming on the drive on the 27th. Looking forward to it!

'02 Cooper - Black with white top, spt pkg., 5sp.

I love black with white. Great color combination. This is a picture I took at Schomp shortly after they opened.

Glad to hear you'll be at the drive. BTW, do you see many MINI's around here? I have only seen 2 in the last month.

Hi Dave,

Wow, that's my car! OK, not really, I have window tint and a rear spoiler. I got mine by chance off the lot when someone backed out of the deal and it only took me 30 seconds of looking over the sticker to decide to take it.

Can't wait to see your S.

I have seen a few others. Saw a silver one down at the Ferrari show at Arapahoe Univ. in the parking lot, a silver one on Capitol hill in Denver and a blue one at Home Depot off of I25.

Had a cop wave at me as he passed by yesterday. That was weird.

Cheers, Lee

I was at Schomp MINI the other day and parked my MCS in the customer parking area just in front of the MINI dealership. Anyhow, I walked in and was talking with Shannon when a car drove up and parked in a spot near mine. A couple of women get out and start eyeing up my car. Then they opened the driver's door. DOH forgot to lock the car. Let that be a lesson to me.

I wonder if the junk I had in the car was a tip off that it was a customer car in the customer car spot or if they just figured Schomp MINI didn't really clean their demo cars that well.

OH! That was you! Shannon warned me about that and asked me to be sure I had locked mine when I was in a few days ago. Funny story.

I was back at Schomp today to get a few problems fixed with my MINI:
- Broken rear seat release mechanism
- DSC and Run-Flat Tire lights had both come on and then went out (pulled codes)
- oil change

I checked out the inventory over at the MINI sales. Some of the interesting highlights:

- Cooper Chilli Red with Chilli Red Roof
- BRG/Black and Silk Green/Black with the Nav system

I just returned from a trip to Virginia where I bought my Silver MC, and drove it back home to Denver. Then up to the mountains over Independence Pass and back a couple of times last weekend. Got almost 3000 miles and have only had the car two weeks! The Mini runs great (and I am getting over the silly cupholders, mediocre stereo, and the awkward front seat adjustment mechanisms). Had an original Mini back in high school back East in the 60s, but it is long gone--so New Mini is a nice return to a Mini for me. So my question is: does all this recent talk of defective windshields, broken seats and shifter cable linkage tell us we should have waited for Mini to debugs our little cars? Anything else to look out for or to ask our local Mini service to fix? Thanks--Bob

When is you (indi/white?) cooper coming in? Do you have a build date yet?

The MINI Drive is tomorrow, but there will be at least a couple more MINI events before the end of Summer.

No build date yet :???: We are thinking a Oct/Nov delivery.

We ordered a CVT/indi blue - white roof/panther cloth/premium/sport/cold/

we are still debating the accessories. Looking forward to a Mini drive. Maybe a winter one.

A winter MINI drive... hmmm... thinking... maybe up to Evergreen to go ice skating on the lake? Not sure how good of an idea that is.

Feel free to float any ideas you have too.

The worst thing about Colorado in the winter is the stupid rocks they put on the road. I have an 02 Mazda Protege ES that has a cracked windshield..

We are definately getting the clear bra for the Mini.

Dave, we met at the classic Mini BBQ last month

Picked up silk green, black roof MC on Thursday. Been happy motoring and showing it off ever since then. Actually car is titled to the wife but I have a long list of reasons she will have to leave it home for me to do things to it. Plan to wash only one quarter panel per day. That will get me most of that week. This is the funny way we buy cars. I pick the car and all the techie things and she picks the colors, explaining why we have Silk green vs the BRG. I did talk her into the black top to be distinctive and told her she could not get by with anything but the leather sport seats. She is glad I pushed her on that one. She was also ecstatic to learn that silk green is being phased out in favor of a gold color for 2003. Now she has a one of a kind, at least in Colorado as far as we know.

Got the premium and cold weather packages and everything from the sport package except the 16" wheels. Also added DSC, fog lamps, roof rack, and Chrome line. Will be doing tinting and clear bra in aftermarket.

Anxious to participate in drives and other functions with other Mini owners.

Tom,

Welcome to MCO. To my knowledge you are the only silk/black. I do know Schomp has also delivered a silk/white and a silk/silk.

See my post at the top of the forum. It has a section for upcoming events. There is a GTG at Sonic in Lafayette on the 18th and a drive with MINI's of the Rockies later in the month. Links to both are included in that post.

Both those events are in August. Here's a preview of what's coming up until the end of the year (that I know of so far):

Late September: the next group drive for the new MINI
Halloween: a fun rally is in the planning stages
November: get together (possibilities: Dave and Busters, Rock Bottom, Krispy Kreme)

If you have any other ideas for events let me know.

Dave

I recently moved here (hm: Littleton/wk:Evergreen) from Portland, Oregon. I currently own a VW New Beetle Turbo "S". After driving by the Schomp on Broadway last week I was hooked! I put a deposit down ASAP! Too bad the wait is a year and a half. I think it'll actually be shorter than that though. I read recently on the BMW international site that they have increased production to help the demand. I can hardly wait to get the call to order!

Mini_Cooper_S: if you want a MINI a lot sooner and you're willing to travel, call Lori Abrams at Westchester MINI in Elmsford New York (914) 347-6464. I think her list is floating around 4-5 months (you'd have a car for spring easily). Westchester is MSRP with no mark-up of forced accessories. That's where I bought my car. Then I just purchased a $200 one way ticket and drove it back to Denver.

Hi All,

I'm on the S waiting list. Back in early July, I decided to get an interim regular Cooper. By that time Schomp was only getting customer ordered cars, no pre-specs. I was bummed. I kept checking in anyway - just in case. Then one day they got in a delivery that included a few pre-spec'd Mini's ..... I said, "I'll take the Chili Red/White with Sport Package please". I'm glad I did!

I'm still waiting to order an S but now I can relax a bit .... phew!

Hey Dave, moving to Thronton Labor Day weekend. I plan on trying to hook up with other owners in the area. I'm also looking forward to the Colorado English Motoring Conclave '02 in September. I hope to see many of you around.

Gobsmaked,

Welcome (soon) to Colorado! Colorado is the home of MCO. Let us know when you get into town and we'll get a few together before the next event (hopefully late September and another in October). Again welcome to sunny (and dry) Colorado!

gobsmaked: I take it you're in Colorado now. There will probably be a group drive of some sort at the end of this month (which reminds me I need to post about that). So hopefully you'll get to start meeting some local MINI owners.

Another Coloradan - currently running with the BMWCCA, but after seeing you guys and your MINIs at the OCT autocross, I'm thinking a MINI might be moving into my garage. The wife thinks they are cool, so I'm halfway there. Now I just need to figure out where the best place to get one is. Not sure I like the idea of waiting on a list for a year or more for an S...anyway, cheers

Brian,
Welcome to the site! When you're ready to look let me know as I can point to several dealerships where you should have a good chance of getting an S in a relatively short time frame (compared to the local wait). Cars are out there and available if you're willing to have it shipped back to Colorado or fly out and drive back like I did.

Best regards,

Mark Ferguson

Ditto mark's thoughts. There are many dealerships selling at MSRP with relatively short lists. Some have MINIs available right now, and others have a wait of around 2-3 months if you wanted to custom spec your car. It's just a matter of being willing to travel or paying to have the car shipped out to Denver. Mark bought his in Chicago. I bought mine in New York at Westchester MINI and I know a few other Coloradans that bought from them. There are more than a few MINI's driving around Colorado that were purchased elsewhere (mostly from either Kansas or Utah).

So, don't let the length of a wait list deter you.
