Record Price Paid For New Mini

I went to my new local Mini delaership in High Wycomb, UK last week to purchase a new battery for MGear (Sytner BMW/Mini). While there I got into a discussion with the tech rep who told me they had just had a record sale for a new Mini Cabrio.

The total delivered price was 32,000.00 British Pounds Sterling at today's conversion rate that equals $57,877.00USD

The dealer could not believe that anyone would spend that much money on a Mini, we both started listing all the other cars one could buy for 60 grand.

Apparently the owner had BMW do a custom "flip" paint job that was $8,000.00 alone

I love my JCWS but who can justify that kind of money on a Mini

Leif and I set out to build the most expensive MINI possible via the MINIUSA website. Came in at a little over $43K and included every possible option and accessory. I think it was the maplight that really put it over the top.

I don't know that I could/could not justify spending that much. I'm quite fond of my MINI, so if I wanted to drop that much on a car it's entirely likely that I'd buy a MINI. It's also quite likely that I'd buy a far less expensive MINI and pocket the money for mods and such while applauding my good taste AND frugality.

I can assure you, if that was the USD price tag for them over here, they would still sell alot of them.

Btw... you cannot compare the selling price of cars here to cars in Britain. I mean, a JCW Mini alone is 26K Sterling. We are very lucky in the USA because we probably have the cheapest new cars in the world.

I should also add, because not many people here know this, the average joe in the UK cannot afford a Cooper S. In fact, most of the S owners I saw were wealthy ones who owned expensive other cars, and S was their fun car.

You are absolutely correct about the cost of new Mini's in the UK verses the USA. Americans do not know how good we have it. My JCWS which is not quite 3 years old and has 23,000 miles on it could easily get $35,000.00USD over here, which is a good 7 g's more than I paid for it when it was new:smile:

However that pretty much is true for eveything over here in the UK. The cost of everything is through the roof. In fact after being here now for two months I have yet to even see a JCWS on the road. You should see what housing costs are it's scary, I really do not know how they manage to exist here, much less raise families.

A cup of Strabucks that costs $1.80 in the states costs $2.60USD over here! Go figure

Where do you find Starbucks for that cheap? Is it just a plain cup of Joe?
Over $3 up here for a Latte or expresso.

I know I'm way up there for a non-Cabrio MCS. Some things you just can't help.

Yeah the buck eighty is for a straight drip grande.

And even if you are loaded spending that much money on a Mini just doesn't make sense. For that kind of money there are plenty of other cars with much better stats.

Don't get me wrong I love my Mini but stupid is not my middle name.

I would tend to agree. 60 large just puts you into a different marketing/automotive bracket.

The most expensive MINI I've seen was just over 40 including tax etc. Fully loaded S, JCW, full aerokit, r99 wheels.

I was actually considering a fully loaded Mini with the Areo Kit, JCW, 18" Rims, Lojack, etc. Dealer was asking 45K which I though was the most outrageous price I'd ever heard of for a Mini. I was so excited and hyped up in the dealership that I was really considering paying that kind of money. But I decided to sleep on it and see how I felt about it in the morning. Sure enough, the next day I had come back to reality and settled on a nicely equipped but much more reasonably priced MCS. Love Minis as I do, I can't even imagine spending almost 58K on Mini.

Maybe the guy or gal who purchased it simply had that kind of money to spend where as it was no problem at all. If that was the case then I could probably see where spending 58K would be acceptable. It must be exciting for them to have one of the most expensive Minis on the road .
