Found another old camera at a garage sale.

Thought I would share a few pictures of my car parked in my driveway.

I have a small collection of old cameras. I found an old Canon QL17 rangefinder (circa approx 1964) recently. Thought I would try it out. They don't make lenses like they used to. Resolution actually puts any digital camera I've used to shame.

The attached pix actually have a LOT more resolution but I shrank the pix so these would be a bit more modem friendly.

Hope you like em.

My Canon A-1 is probably older than most of the people that post here.

And yes, it STILL works great.

The lens has nothing to do with resolution. Most current digicam lenses are perfectly sharp at most of thier ranges. The older lenses were certainly faster than most inexpensive cameras today, but again, nothing to do with resolution. You got good resolution from those shots because of the scanner used, not the camera. ISO 100 35mm film has about a 20MP volume of grain. Digital medium format backs have surpassed the effective resolution of film and a top level scanner.

Bam, dropping the science IN YOUR FACE

j/k. In any case, nice photos. Good to see some quality old school.

You are just a step up from my AE-1. A-1 was a little too pricey for me. I went with better lenses and a lower camera. Mine is still going strong also.

I've experimented with digital cameras, and like them for some situations, but I still love my 30-year-old Konica TC. It wasn't a top of the line camera, but I've got a couple of good lenses for it, and (after 30 years) I know how to use it. Plus, I'm not willing to spend the $ that it would take to match its capabilities in a digital camera.

I have an A-1 and a collection of lenses and flashes, plus a motor drive and some other minor goodies. The camera needs a trip back to Canon for cleaning and lubing as well as a new foam seal around the mirror (the camera works sluggishly and the mirror sticks). I've taken a ton of pictures with that setup and always loved the results. I miss the feel and sound of taking pictures with it not to mention the quality results. That camera is very solidly built and will probably outlast me.

I'm spoiled with the convenience and instant gratification with my digitals (Olympus C-5050 and Canon S-230) but miss film sometimes.

Well I have an old hasselblad that I used for many years. It uses 120 film which produces 2.25" x 2.25 negatives. Great for making enlargements, shows great detail. One of the finest (and most expensive) cameras ever made. I thought the digital stuff would never come close.
Well, I was wrong. I picked up a 5MP Sony DSC-717 which was on sale for $600. It uses a Carl Zeiss lens and the pictures are excellent! I haven't touched my film cameras in some time. Who would have thought I'd be shooting with a Sony.. The convenience of digital is awesome and it just keeps getting better. I had a 35mm Leica that I sold about 5 years ago. That was a great camera but I'm glad to be in the digital world now.

The new SLR digital stuff is also getting more affordable... Oh happy days...

Since you are talking about cameras......

I tried to upload some pics of my car to this site and I got a message that the resolution was too high or something...How do I make changes in a pic for it to be suitable here after I've taken the shot?

Use Photoshop or your editor of choice to resize them to 800x600 or less.

Interesting thread; i was looking for Mini info, but come across my other passion, photography.

I would agree that at little as two years ago that the older cameras would hold their own, but current digital technology has really caught up with film. The newer '35mm' format pro slr's are surpassing all but the finest grained slide films (too close to call?). I have been a Nikon fan since the mid '80s, my first Nikon body being an F2 photomic. I grew up with a Mamiya fixed lens 35mm rangefinder before that. I get nostalgic at times for the older gear, but would not go back to film for any reason at the moment. I am shooting with a 4MP D2H, and while the pixel count may seem low for this camera, the results are fantastic. After I get my MCS, my next major purchase will be an upgrade to a 12MP D2X, probably my last camera purchase for a long while (that camera will fill all my photographic needs:smile: ).

Hey...I had one of those too. Great camera. I still have 2 AE-1p's, an FTb, and recently the QL17 rangefinder. Also, I recently inherited a Yashica GX35 rangefinder.

Having trouble finding time to take enough pictures to justify having all these cameras around.

I too have old Canon lenses, and I use adaptors to mount to my Leica M3.
Canon's are pretty good exception of coating.
Its not good for back lighting though.

Well, call me the techno junkie of the bunch but i like my digitals. I grew up with my dad's canon and absolutely love the feel of an old skool SLR (digital SLR's just feel different). While i know that part of the skill (if not most of it) of taking a good picture is knowing what it will look like after developing before you even take it, I just dont have the years of experience to do that. Gimme my instant view any day and ill take 50 shots until i get it exactly perfectly, unarguably, magnificently, right on. So far I'm totally happy with my sony 5mp DSC-F707 (replaced now by the F717) so i have no plans of upgrading yet. When the new X3 sensors get a little more mainstream ill pick up a 5 or 6 effective mp SLR as my final hoohaa but until then im good.

That is a fine rangefinder camera. I have one sitting on my desk...use it about as much as my Rollie Medium format Twin Lens (about once every 5 years)....the Nikon D70 is the main shooter these days...up to nearly 7k images to date.

thanks for the pics!
