R50/53 Is a $300 discount good?
Very good...
According to the responses in this previous thread, Yes.
Were there any other fees, like "documentation fee", or the infamous "market value adjustment", or a "protection package" added on to the manufacturer sticker?

Most people here (me included) didn't get ANY discount. Heck I didn't even get free matts... that should almost be a standard minimum that the dealers should all do.

Let us know how you managed a $300 discount.
I once saw an MC (car show model) at the dealership that had painted aerokit, 17" white S-lytes and white tail lights installed that didn't sell due to the add ons and 6 months later was discounted about $1200. It sold pretty quick after that.
I got a $350 discount and free floor mats when I ordered my MC in August of 03. The way I looked at it I had to have a "discount" to keep the price at MSRP after the "documentation fee" and city tax I was charged. My net discount was $50 and free floor mats.
To answer your question, sounds like you did good.

There are three dealers in the area and I called each a few times over the last month and wasn't in a hurry to order. I pretty much said I would only buy one if I got a bit of a deal. One finally gave in and took a few hundred dollars off. The other offered two sets of free mats. The third dealer wouldn't budge at all.
I'm looking at an early August delivery.
Why does it take so long for my posts to show up in these forums? Does someone read and censor every post???

Never heard of ANY discount here in California, we feel very lucky to pay MSRP when we don't have to buy out of state (like I did)...
I got the free floor mats and the front black grill inserts. They gave me the grill inserts for free becasue they could only get the top one installed and couldn't figure out how to install the bottom one, so I guess they felt sorry for doing only a half job. I took the bottom part home with me and installed it right away. It only needed a slight modification which I believe the dealer either didn't know how to do or is not allowed to do. Whatever it was a freebee worth about an additional $40.00:smile:
You've definitely done well. With buying anything, we're always curious about the "best possible price", and what others have paid in similiar situations.
Bottom line, don't pay what you're unwilling to pay. Someone will always tell you they "could get that cheaper". My reply?
"Knock yourself out!"
Bought a handmade wool tapestry, similiar to nomadic carpet work, in Turkey in 1991. Curious about the nature of my "deal", since this sort of item (it's actually Iranian) was never sold locally, in Northern Turkey.
Spoke with a turkish SFC-equivalent (Sergeant First-Class), I described approximate size, and price. Asked if he thought it was machine-made or hand-made.
Him: "It's machine-made."
Me: "How can you say? I've seen enough hand-made stuff to know the difference in hand-made and machine-made finishing.."
Him: "How much did you pay again?"
Me: "About a hundred dollars."
Him: "It's machine-made, then."
Me: "How can you be sure?"
Him: "At THAT price, it's either machine-made, or stolen."
Hmmm. guess I've got some purloined goods, then :-)
Cheers,
Matthew Z.

I got $400 off MSRP. It was not easy to do, I basically told them I would walk and look at something else. Then the salesdroid had to discuss with the manager. I was then told "OK" if I bought the car right now. I told them I needed a few days to reseach and choose options. So I went back 3 days later and placed my order and received the $400 off MSRP as promised.
I tried for $500, wanted the LSD for free! But they would not bend anymore.

It's always nice to hear that some dealers are really willing to work to get your business.... Donna

I got a $500 "discount" off of MSRP on my 04 MCS. I ordered at the 1st of Jan. 04 for a March delivery from Moritz in Arlington, Tx. My discount was that they had forgot to add the 04 increase in price when I ordered. They told me about it when I picked up the car and did not try to add it back in. They are straight up guys.
i got free floor mats & a outside kar cover when i got my kar
and they brought the S-anchors (lights) back and mounted/balanced the tires on the aftermartet wheels
You did good as did the rest of you who have posted getting your MINI at a discount....

Crown Mini in Richmond offered and I took Free Rubber Mats (Front Rear and Back) and a $250.00 Discount. Total Transaction took about 15 minutes on Tuesday May 17 and my Mini production date is the first week of July.
Kelly at Crown was prompt in calling me back after I left her a voice mail. I went in that day and she found a stock mini on order and converted it to my specifications. Crown has a $399.00 processing fee plus Va Sales Tax. She didn't even ask for a downpayment other than putting a credit card on file.
If the car and it's workmanship approach the level of service offered to this point. I will be a happy man!!!! HCALLAWAY

I got a free T-Shirt because I closed the deal 1 day early to make their May numbers better (closed on May 31, picked up June 1).
I got free mats and $500 off one that was in the showroom last December. Customer had ordered then backed out. The dealer was advertising right here, any car in stock $500 off. I consider myself lucky to have found one that had everything I wanted and more for no more than I wanted to spend.
