Accident

Well the other day it just started to rain at about 4:00pm I was switching lanes into the turning lane for my development. Immediately my cars ASC went off and the rpms shot up to 6,000. I started to loose control of the car and I couldn’t continue to go straight or I would have ran into a lake. I took the turn to my nationhood going 20mph the car was driving straight sideways and the front left tire ran into a curb. The car bounced off the curb back onto the road for the gate guard. When I got out to see the damages my cars side looked like this:

NOTE: This is not my track cooper this is my everyday driving cooper.

If you notice the wheel looks like its hanging. This is because the axel seems to have been snapped and the suspension is snapped. As well it looked like the car was leaking allot of oil I hope none of the engine parts were damaged. The tire is completely busted and the rim is bent like a triangle. It’s not a bad crash but for only going about 20mph it’s not good at all. It seems I have found the soft spot of a cooper.

As for personal damages I hit my head on the steering wheel and sprained my arm.

I won’t get an estimate on the car until Monday but I hope its nothing to ridicules.

Yikes! Scary stuff. Glad you are relatively unhurt, and I hope the repair bill doesn't hurt too bad either. Was it definitely motor oil that was leaking out?

Its probably just the control arm. If its only that, it shouldn't be that much. Sorry to hear about it. Glad your ok though! Minor injuries suck, they always bug you the most.

I know from experience oil mixed with rain makes a rainbow color. Put your finger in what's dripping and sniff. That's how i'd figure it out

Sorry about the booboo :(I hope the estimate isn't too bad, but i'm very glad you're ok. Accident's suck. I would know, i have to work on them all day long :/

*agree on control arm from what i read and saw. But don't listen to a female

Well got the call i was dreading seems it will be about $3,000 or more for the repair. As far as they know the control arm is snapped the rim and tire are in shreds, the corner panel is melted because of the heat off the tire. And a couple of other things are just in pieces.

I did a little research and found if i were to report it to the insurance company it will end up being more in the long run, because of my age and other heh problems. So I'm going to be paying around 3g or more. That will make it about 55g I have spent on the darn thing all together.

Glad you're okay...

next time slap her into neutral first thing. Next question is were you wearing a seat belt(your head hit the steering wheel)? If yes then why didn't the airbag deploy? Just curious.

I'm pretty sure the airbag deployment sensors are located primarily in the bumper. So in this case they didn't deploy.

the wheel hit the curb. The airbag sensor (on most new cars) is located near the windshield. He hit his wheel on the curb, so the damage would have been insuficient to cause a deoployment. As far as him hitting his head on the steering wheel, the 3 pt belts used today are relativley innefective. in an angular crash like he experienced, the lateral forces may have been powerful enough to throw his head and upper torso past the belt and into the wheel.

You know I never posted it. Maybe I will, but later.

Won't slipping into nuetral defeat some of the options available to the DCS while it trys to correct for you? I thought I read it can use the throttle just as well as the ABS system to correct for skids?
