Once Upon a Time, there was an MC40 and an SRT-4...
So I'm at this stoplight near my house about an hour ago and notice that I've pulled up to a silver SRT-4 with Virginia plates. The weather is nice over here in NJ today, so we both had our windows down.
I hadnt planned on even 'challenging' the guy - I think the MINI (both MC and MCS) has nothing to prove to any other car - the smiles and thumbs up from other people speak volumes. He'd also probably smoke me if he mod'ed that car to its full potential. Well, that and my Passport SRX radar was picking up very strong signal up ahead, lol.
But then this SRT-4 driver yells over to me, unprovoked, "Hey, what cereal box did you get that out of?". OK, NO ONE talks about 'Winston' like that. So I reply back, "Nice Neon."
Basically at this point, 'it was on'. He started revving his engine, making a ruckus. I KNOW that there's a cop somewhere up the road (its a 50 mph speed limit road). I REV 'Winston' as though I'm 'in it to win it'.(sounds just as nice, thanks to the work that Eric/Helix did)
Light turns green and we both fly off the line. He's a little ahead of me , but I didnt care. I got up to 50 very quickly in 1st, and slammed on the brakes to drop to 40. The dude goes flying, must've been going at least 80 when I saw the lights and sirens turn on down the road to the right and proceed to slide onto the road to give chase. The cop car passes me and starts tailgating the srt-4....and I drove right by them as they were slowing down to pull over and gave a nice little honk!
sucka!
...SCORE ONE for our beloved MINI!!!
ps- I'm not sure why he didnt have a radar detector if he owns a car like that (is it illegal to have one in Va?)

Connecticut's anti-radar-detector law was repealed in 1998
RADAR Detectors are illegal in ALL states for all "commercial" vehicles over 10,000 pounds (Federal Law)
Also illegal on all Military bases.

Justice, sweet, sweet justice.... That's just a beautiful story.
I think I like that one as much as the recent post about the guy in the Dodge truck spinning out while tailgating a MINI in the twisties. Must be something about Chrysler owners...

That's too funny. I've got this *** who lives near me w/an SRT-4, Black. He goes racing up and down the street, where children are always at play. If he keeps it up I'm going to put a little note on the car, and maybe call the cops.
Good story.
Hello,
Actually, have a friend in the area that drives a modded SRT-4. He was in the running to be Mopar's sponsored racer in Mid-Atlantic, but no definite word back yet.
Might have raced you, but wouldn't have fallen for that trick. Uses a detector AND a jammer(!), that switches on automatically over about 65 mph.
He's got nothing but respect for my MCS, and knows how excited I was to get it, but with a stage two turbo kit and water injector, plus other bits, I'm not gonna mess with him in a straight line..
cheers,
matthew Z.

Good story. It would have been an exceptional story if you had actually told the other driver that you thought there was a speed trap ahead, if he had replied "sure there is" with a big, sarcastic smile, and then gotten nailed.
VA cops are pretty crazy about radar detectors. If they see a strange bump on your ceiling line or dash, they will pull you over to investigate. My friend has a '92 Bonneville with the factory HUD and cops have pulled him over because they saw the bump on his dash. They also look for lights that blink when they fire the radar gun at you (easiest to spot at night of course). The fines and points if they catch you with a detector are a big hit, too. I've often wondered about various ways to stealth a detector, but it would have to be something with an audio or vibrating alert.

Good to know steve
I too have been provoked by a SRT-4 neon and also smiled and said "nice neon" aswell. Lol when it comes down to it the car is a beast...but its STILL A NEON. It is in no way shape or form close to the build quality of a MC.
Classic story!
And I can't get over the "cereal box" comment. What an ***! Like that souped up Neon is a big, proven sports car
. Hey, I know the SRT-4 is fast, but so is a turd with a rocket strapped to it!

thats what 'stealth' is for
