Scratches, how to repair them?

Heya. While waxing my baby today, I found some pretty nasty scratches [stupid High School parking lots] on her paint. I was wondering where I can get a patch kit, or who does scratch repair.

THANKS!

I don't know how bad they are, but if they aren't too deep, then I would reccomend Scratch X (I think it's by Meguiars). I've been able to get most of my scratches out with that.

If they're sort of scuffed and white, then an autobody shop would be your best bet. They could fix it up while you wait. Shouldn't be too expensive. I think they would probably finely sandblast them away.

If your scratches are up to 1500 grit, then I recommend 3M scratch remover which can be applied by either machine or hand. It is clearcoat safe and it seems to me generally more effective than Meguiar's Scratch-X. I have never been impressed with that product.

If that doesn't work, take it to a professional and let them deal with the scratches.

It really depends on how deep the scratch is, if you run your finger nail across it (making it like an X) and your nail gets caught in it. Then, it is too deep to buff out, but you can get a detailer to cut it down and make it less visible. Also, if you have a darker colour car, then they will have to use a dark based wax to hide the scratches better.

Factory touch up paint + www.langka.com. Works very well.

I've used Langka for paint chips (from rocks) and it worked great. I haven't tried it on a long scratch.

I can see Langka being very cool on chips. It takes A LOT more artistry to get longer scratches to work through.

If the scratch is just into clearcoat, work with compounds and polishes to buff it out before resorting to touch-up paint.
