Low miles, mint condition, nicely equipped. This one should move fairly fast.

Place an ad in autotrader.com and cars.com. For cars.com, pick the $50 "Premium ad" package that allows 12 photo uploads and runs until it sells. It worked for me when I sold my '04 MCS back in February.

Good luck.

C4, I've done all of it! Its been on Cars.com for 6 weeks. Autotrader for 2 weeks and in my local paper for about a month. Haven't had a single call!! Only reason that I'm selling it is the kids are getting big, and I got a great deal on an '04 G35. (Which is a great car by the way)

selling suggestions.

I had a similar experience with my IS300. This car is not moving because can get an O5 for the same price. Put on Ebay with your bottom line price as the reserve and get a feel for the market. You can relist for free if it does not sell, adjust your price accordingly and it'll move.

I am not in the market either but curious where the seller is located. I saw a recent spreadsheet on dealer auction sales and a similar one sold at auction for over 21k. This is the SF bay area.

The car's in the "other" S.C.....you know, the one without the inflated prices the west coast people have to deal with. In that, it may be a bit over priced for the market here. There's a fair number of MINI's sitting on the used car lots around this part of the country.

Good luck on the sale, though. Ebay may be the way to go.

Here in the Greenville SC area, there are not many 04 S's to be found. (Haven't looked at the local dealer. This is based on newspaper ads, Autotrader and Cars.com). I was offered 21K from the Infiniti dealer on trade in, but based what I saw for advertised prices on Autotrader and on the KBB private party value, I thought I could do a lot better. Looks like I may have dropped the ball on this one. I guess, all I can do is sit tight for now.

Thanks for the input by all!

Trade in on a new car is usually better than what you'll sell it for privately...just a tip. Figure around $20k and you'll sell your car.

Are you by chance a car salesman??

I think you're 180 degrees out on this. If you can afford to wait, you will always (99.9%) do better selling it yourself then if you give it to the dealer. They need to turn it, therefor they will either low ball you on the trade value or jack the price of the car you're buying.

Really? Since when??

Only under very special circumstances, trading in may be of more benefit than selling privately, but most often the latter offers the maximum return on the dollar.

I had a 16 month old '04 MCS (In pristine condition) with 17K miles that I sold privately for $21,900 in early February. My Dealer and Carmax would only offer me $18,500 for the car on a trade-in. No way!

I sold the car in 6 short days after I placed an ad in cars.com for the asking price. The buyer didn't even made an attempt to haggle the price!

By selling the car privately I put instantly $3,400 in my pocket, not the dealer's or Carmax.

I work hard for my money, hence trading in is the absolute last option for me. It is a very expensive convenience if you will.

Don't feel bad, mine has been for sale for over 2 months.
However, I am only willing to sell it for what I am asking... that is probably my problem. And it is a good bit more than your asking.....

I sold my previous car in 3 days.

Price it right and they'll call, or you can sit on it until it depreciates more and then adjust the price.

Price it right, but don't give it away. Some people buying used cars, specially MINIs, expect fire sale bargains. These cars are expensive whether some like it or not and if you want one, you will have to pay top $$$ for it.

Supply and demand. Simple as that.

Have you tried www.craigslist.net yet? It's a freebie and some people seem to have some success with it, at least here in the SF Bay area. Maybe, it could work for you.

C4, What did you have for extra's in your '04 S? Also, what was the color? At your selling price of $21,900, I m hoping it was less equiped than mine.

SoCar S, where in the state are you located, and what are you asking??

By the way, I am starting to get some inquires. Unfortunately it is by "low ballers". I willing to judge, but I'm not going to give it away! If I had won that $250 mil power ball last weekend it may have been a different story.

I am located in South Carolina.
Mine has been listed for a while...

However, I am also asking 26k for it.
I am not in a position to feel like I am going to give it away and therefore if it sells at that price it sells. The way I look at it, with mine, let the buyer go and try to buy a loaded pw/pw at their local dealer and drive it way that same day....

It's a nice car, low miles, lots of extras.
Now I might budge on my price if for example the buyer would take the factory s-lites, as opposed to my R-90's etc, etc.

Hey Socar,

Forgive me for getting off-topic here, but I believe Captain Tenneal says "Let's get it on", not Guy LeDouche.

Don't forget I said "NEW car" and "usually". You'll never get a great deal trading on a used car. Used car dealers buy at auction and will give you what they can buy them for there. New car dealers generally work on volume (on NEW cars) and can sometimes afford to jack up your trade value.

Did I ever sell cars? Yes. Do I know the industry? Yes. Is what I'm saying true? Yes. Can you have a different experience? Yes. Any other questions?

SC Chili Cooper, sorry to hijack your thread. I really do hope you sell it at your asking price. Good luck...and...BUMP once more today.
