R50/53 Favorite Motoring Music
Favorite Motoring Music
I was wondering what some peoples favorite "Music to Motor" would be?
My girlfriend and I are picking up our MCS in a few weeks and I am in the process of putting together some custom playlists for the road trip back, and was just wondering if there were specific songs that anyone else has as "standards" if you will.
Or maybe a song that had to be the first song you played in your Mini?
I know some may find this topic strange, but having been into a wide range of music since I was young I tend to relate a lot of points in my life with different bands, songs, etc. For example I have a 67 Mercury Cougar that I've had since High School and listening to 80's rock just seems to feel right when I'm in that car, and remembering past good times in it with friends, etc. Certain songs reallly click, like maybe a tune from prom night.
Music and cars just seem to go together
I think we've settled on our first song for the MCS drive home, and that being "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger.... "You're Motoooorrriinnnn...."

Bond is great to motor to. And yes, I do understand, because I heard Bond's Allegretto a week or two before I took delivery and had to had to HAD TO have it as my first song in the car. Same reason as you, the association.
The best for me is Alkaline Trio. They're getting more well known as the days pass so some may know them. If you have a darker side and like older Green Day or Blink you should like Alkaline Trio.
Other than that, "Hells Bells" - AC/DC (first song on Back in Black) was always a great song to drive to as was "Highway to Hell".
Anything I know well, know the words to, etc seems to work well for me as motoring music.

Just got a copy of the new Rob Thomas CD and it is excellent - especially tracks 1,2, and 4 - you should check it out - played it while riding on the dragon and it is great motoring music!

Yesterday I bought a "classics" album from Sam Goody with a "live" version of Sister Christian for 99 cents. It strikes me as the ultimate motoring song, and I was happy to finally add it to my music collection.
Let's just say I was badly overcharged. I had no idea any song could be that long in so few minutes.

At the risk of raising a few eyebrows, the first song i played in Kathy was Work It (AC/DC remix) by Nelly and Justin Timberlake. Its happy, fun, and has a loud fast beat for motoring to.
I just bought the Trojan SKA Box Set and love it. If you like Regae but want something with a little mere tempo, this is it! This is the original stuff from the 50s and 60s, not the later 2-Tone revival stuff. I've never been into the original SKA but it makes perfect driving music! www.trojan-records.com

I second the Deep Purple suggestion. The whole Machine Head album.
Johnny Winter - Second Winter
ZZ Top - anything
Grand Funk Railroad - Closer to Home
regarding Dylan.
I would not pass up an opportunity to meet a living legend.

I have a 40 GB Creative Zen Xtra MP3 player that I hook into the Aux. input. It holds essentially our entire CD collection. Normally I set it on random play, and recently one song keeps coming up almost everytime I drive. Because of this weird synchronicity, I've decided it is the official theme song for our MCS. And that song is...
Jesus Built My Hotrod by Ministry.
I dare you to stay off the gas pedal while playing it.
