OEM Cooper Spare fit on S?

Hi,
I've been reading the threads about buying a spare wheel and tire to use on a Cooper S, and I am confused about whether or not they will fit. Will the wheel and tire you get from MINI that is for the Cooper fit over the brake calipers on an S? Has anyone who has purchased one actually put the spare on the car? Also, does anyone know how much the wheel and tire cost from the dealer? I've seen numbers from $100 to $300.
Thanks,
Steve

I'm pretty certain that it will. I bought a spare wheel from Classic at a 20% discount. I found a spare tire at a junk yard but Alex at Tire Rack sells the correct size spare for considerably less than the MINI Dealers. Either Alex or Classic should be able to confirm that the wheel will fit. I don't believe that the brakes are different on an S from the Cooper. I haven't tried fitting mine. Get a spare tire bag from the bag lady.

Thanks for the info about the fit.

Looks like it fits . I was reading a thread in the MINI talk forum and a person said his dealer didn't want to sell him a spare wheel because he didn't think it would fit on an S. Does anyone know what the wheel costs or the part number? Is it cheaper to go to Tire rack for the tire and have it mounted locally rather than get both parts from MINI?
Do the wheel and tire come as separate parts from MINI anyway?
Thanks,
Steve

Where do you store it? I thought the space for the spare was taken up by other Mini S components.

Regards,

Joe

The compact spare fits both MC and MCS or cabrios. Be careful if you have aftermarket tires that are very tall or very short compared to the stock size (roughly 24.5"). Just drive slowly (yeah, right! ).

You can store the compact spare under the rear of the MC but cannot do the same for the MCS due to the location of the battery. Therefore you can put the compact spare into a bag or cloth and store it in your boot upright. A strap or bungie cord will help to hold the tire down if you have a loop on the bag holding the spare tire.

Jerseygirl had spare tire bags she made that did all that. Do a search to find more info.

It fits in the boot and is secured with a bungee cord. It takes about about half of the boot but it can fit behind the passenger seat if needed. It's good for long trips and it cost me a $43.00 complete with shipping from a wrecking yard.

I just bought a plug kit and I am looking for an air compressor to use for local driving.
