Interior/Exterior Tinting the sunroof and resale
Tinting the sunroof and resale
I'm not even sure this will be an issue but I wanted to get some opinions on it. I have the ability to get commercial reflective coating (or something of the sort) on the sunroof to reduce much of the sunlight. I'm just not sure if that will hurt resale if I ever choose to sell my MINI (which is looking less likely as I would prefer simply to collect them, not sell one for another).
Either way though, anyone think it would hurt resale value? Help? Not matter?

Be careful!
Because I despise getting into a hot car after a long day at the office (where I have no choice but to park in an uncovered lot with precious little shade), I am about to have my windows tinted. And like you I had planned to have the moonroof glass tinted as well.
However, the tint shop guy told me that they don't do the moonroof glass anymore because it can cause the glass to shatter. I'm not sure this makes sense, but that was his story. And there was a thread a week or so ago about a spontaneous moonroof failure that could be linked.
Anybody got any first-hand experience with this?

Huh? Exploding sun roof glass. I read the thread and am astounded. My roof's been tinted for over a year and I've had no problem with it in Southern CA. My first MINI had it's windows and sunroof tinted with standard film by the dealer's tint company. No problems on that one either.
I have the Huper Optik ceramic tint--maybe that makes a difference. I could see that if standard tint were to shrink while adhered to the glass a fracture might happen..I guess...Seems like this is something MINI should tell us like
DO NOT TINT YOUR SUNROOF GLASS.

OK, He said " commercial reflective coating" I dont think he is talking about tint here. Let's try to answer his question or clarify.
SoCalSam: If you are talking about that silver looking reflective tint, yes IMO it may hurt resale,
As other people said it may be removed but you may want to clarify or perhaps post a pic of this "commercial reflective coating"

If glass is shattering it is due to the build up of heat and the large weight of the glass laying completely horizontal that is loading the glass in the direction it is weakest. Tint absorbs the heat, It is a contributing factor, but an anomoly in glass composition is the cause. Nothing to worry about for the masses IMO

I did the sunroof to cut down on the light coming in and I'm bald also
.I think it would be a thing the buyer would want as it would cut down on fade. Although my MCS stays in the garage every night except for 6 nights total out of 2 years.

No problems what so ever. (I did have a problem on one of my house windows since it is double pane glass.)
