18 years ago Sears made a very nice hot water dry/wet vacuum that was well suited for cleaning automotive carpet and cloth seats. It was actually marketed for indoor carpet and automotive carpet. Well, mine finally died last year. This particular cleaner was great; add water and cleaning solution, spray the solution over the entire carpet, let it sit, and then vacuum the hot water, solution and all the dirt up.

This was really a wet/dry vacuum cleaner. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have this one from Sears and love it. It will suck the paint off of the car yet it is small and NARROW which is great because it fits between two parked cars in the garage.

 

I've got one of the old Craftsman 5 gallon Shop Vacs... It's great because they have been using the same parts for years... you can always find spares and filters at any Sears store.

I think you are looking for one that sprays the water as well... Something like this with a built-in uphostry attachment (and a water heater)

With any of these machines, be sure to do at least 1 fresh water rinse after using soap. If you leave ANY of the soap in the carpets, they will act just like duct tape and grab any bit of dirt... they will be nasty again in just a week!

 

I bought a cheap one from home depot several years ago. It's still working like a charm and if it dies, I can just go spend another $40 for a new one.

Spraying the soap solution with the same machine would be ideal, but a spray bottle will do the same thing and I can soak it all up with a wet dry vac. Funny, I actually own an industrial wet/dry vac made by Rigid.

Home Depot sells a brand called Stinger. It is round, about a foot in diameter, has a handle on top and is wet/dry. It has a 2hp motor which is pretty decent in the car. It also has a vacuum port on one side and a blower on the other (which could be used to blow water out of hard to waffle spots). It is yellow/red/black and cost about 45 bucks Canadian - so that is about 35 USD?? It comes with two attachments. Sorry, I don't have a pic but I recommend it at that price.
