Brake Kits that fit R84 Wheels?
Brake Kits that fit R84 Wheels?
I'm looking for brake kits that fit stock 16" R84 (X-lite/V-spoke) wheels. I did a search, but didn't find much.
From my reading, here are the kits I think will fit:
Willwood 11.75" and 12.2" Kits
B3 16" Kit
Detroit Tuned 16" Kit
Does anyone have experience with these setups?
Also, have people had much success with a simple upgraded slotted rotor setup (such as Powerslot or Stoptech) along with better pads?
These will be for track use, and cost/effectiveness ratio is more important than looks (for me).
Thanks!

I have just received my slotted rotors and hawk pads from detroit tuned. Since they are not yet installed I cannot give a review, but I did the same sort of upgrade on my previous vehicle (VW GTI) and was very happy with the cost-effective solution.
If I had a little more money, I'd go with either the B3 or the Detroit Tuned kits because I feel they offer the best improvement for the money. The next time I need to deal with my brakes I am definitely getting one of these kits.
Remember to use some very high quality brake fluid when you do the switch. I believe that the upgraded fluid may be as helpful to braking performance and fade prevention as the upgraded rotors and pads. . . .

Any MINI will benefit from changing brake pads when used on the track. A common choice is Ferrodo DS2500 but they do dust a bit and wear the rotor faster. Changing to slotted rotors might look nicer than stock and offer a means to remove boundary gases but there isn't much performance difference per se. Changing brake fluid to something that boils at a higher temperature like ATE super blue helps to reduce the chance for brake fade under the high temperatures of track use. For firmer pedal feel, stainless steel brake lines help(speed bleed valves are handy as well).
Adding any BBK adds to the cost- figure $1000+ and usually this is only for the fronts. More for labor and you still have to deal with the rears. Once adding the BBK you narrow the choices you have with wheels. Rear brakes can also be upgraded separately or with "BBK". See Webbmotorsports.com or contact Todd at TCE brakes for options.
I'm weighing the same options as you, but from previous track prep experience I would say stay away from spending extra money for fancy zinc plated/slotted rotors. Rotors should be treated are relatively cheap expendables.

Along with Minihune's suggestions, you may want to add a caliper bushing kit (available from Tyrol or HMS MS). I'll be doing a DE in April with all of the above (Feredo 2500s, ATE fluid, SS brake lines & bushings). I'll let you know how it works! BTW with track experience, over time you will probably find that you are not as hard on the brakes.
Cheers,
