April NORCAL run to the wine country APRIL 10th

We are going up Silverado Trail to Calistoga then Petrified Forest and Mark West Springs roads then crossing hwy 101 on River Rd. to Korbel Champagne for a hour tour and complimentary tasting followed by lunch at Korbel. Korbel will make fresh box lunches for us at $14 each for those who would like to order two weeks before hand. If not they have a Deli there. They also will park us up on the "promenade" for a little car show while were there. More info shortly. LP

Delightful. So civilized. Wish I could join in, but no car yet. I hope you do it again next season. Weather should be great and everything will still be green.

I have never been on one of these MINI runs but if you are looking for fun driving roads I would skip Silverado Trail. It is scenic and all with the vineyards and such but is mostly straight, lots of traffic, and patroled heavily by the CHP. If you are interested in something else, get out your map, check www.pashnit.com, or PM me and I'll let you know some much more challenging and fun roads that will take you from I-80 up to Calistoga.

Silverado should not be too bad in april so far as traffic is concerned but the CHP wil be all over for sure. I personally would cut to sonoma county using the oakville grade/trinity road then maybe thru glenn ellen backroads to sebastopol and thru forestville etc. to Korbel. Beautiful parts of the area will be seen on this path. But that is just me. I have been up and down siverado trail too many times. Sounds like fun I would love to hook up with you all somewhere along the way.

Larry if you need route assistance, you might look at some of the runs we at REME have done in the last 6 months. Our group drives through both areas frequently since this is both our front and back yards.

Look at http://redwoodempiremini.com/calendar.htm for downloadable maps for routes all over Napa and Sonoma Counties, or email me or Wine Chic if you want to verify road conditions.

Meet up

Meet up at 9 to 915 am. Take the Marineworld exit off hwy 37 just west of hwy 80. Go left under the freeway on Fairgrounds Dr to the south side (coming from 80). Make next left on Sage St. Theres a small parking lot just past the Chevron carwash on the left we can take over for a few minutes. We will leave there at 930am on the dot. We'll head up 37 to 29 then 12 north to the Valley of the Moon and Sonoma. We'll make a sharp right onto Trinity-Oakville Rd for some twists and over into Napa Valley where we make a left on 29 followed by a quick right onto Oakville Crossroads. Making a left onto Silverado Trails we will head to Calistoga for a break. Afterwards we wil hit 128 north to Petrified Forest Rd. turning right onto Porter Creek Rd./Markwest Springs Rd. crosssing 101 onto River Rd. and Korbel for lunch. After lunch we will decide on the return route. If its nice we can take hwy1. larry

Hwy 80 East (actually you'll be going north) in Vallejo go through town and you'll see the hwy37/napa sign heading west also signs for the Marineworld exit. Where are you coming from?

I like the Motorola ones. You want to get one with the side channels. Also the longer the distance the better. 7-10 miles. I picked up some raffle prizes from our friends at Eastbay MINI too. See ya on sunday. Larry

Larry,
I am a new member of NorCal MINI's and just bought a radio for the run this sunday. I bought one with a 5 mile range and was reading the manual and it says I need a liscense for the channel we are using this weekend. any chace we could switch to 8 instead of 7. I understand its a little late but it really would be appreciated since I dont want the FCC on me. If not then ok, I will still see you guys at the meet point in Valejo.

Moses

You can buy the FCC license online without wait... I think its $80 for 5 years, although I doubt that most 2-way radio users have one....
