Factory bonnet stripes to short

i just installed my white oem bonnet stripes and they were not long enough to go from the top of the bonnet to the grille. there is about a half inch gap at the top and the bottom of the stripes where they should line up with thte grille and top of the bonnet has anyone else had this problem?

The MINI Cooper & MINI Cooper S stripes are different lengths - maybe you have the wrong ones?

The correct factory bonnet stripes should only be about 1/4" shorter
than the distance from the grill to the top of the bonnet.

I'm not sure about this, but I think I read that the OEM MCS stripes have a contrasting pinstripe along the edge - a white pinstripe on black stripes or vice versa. The OEM MC stripes are solid, with no contrasting edge. So you should be able to tell which you've got just by looking at them.

My MCS stripes do have a bit of a gap at each end, but it's pretty small. Maybe 1/8 of an inch?

I had factory bonnet stripes put on by the dealer, and as said before in here, the stripes have about a 1/4 inch gap at the top and bottom of the stripe. I don't really like it, but I can't find a paint shop to paint the stripes the way I want. I guess I came up with too complex a design.

Your stripes look great, off topic, but love the driving lamps to!

I had stripes put on at the dealership and there is a small gap at the top and bottom, bothered me at first, but I had forgotten about that until now.

The factory stripes always leave this gap....a very common downfall for OEM. My stripes do not leave this gap as they are trim to fit and I offer them for the bonnet, boot, and roof in any color you can imagine. See my gallery.

Yah, mine do the same thing. I custom made them myself for only $5
. Still holding up strong after a year

Here are mine going all the way up to the grill(they are placed out wider too, to look more like the classic minis):

RallyMINI, I really like your stripes... location... they go all the way to the edges... and the price!

Have you previously shared how you did them?
If not, would you mind telling us?
Thanks.

They sell giant rolls of precut stripe vinyl at your local AutoZone

I probably had enough to do three cars atleast. I then bought some black pinstriping and carefully lined them up along the edge of my stripes.

The striping comes as one large stripe with two thin stripes of white, one on each side. I decided not to use these, but they would look great on a mini. You can use this stuff to make anything from viper stripes to full car-length rally stripes

Where i positioned them was rather hard, because coming up on the headlights and grill bulge is probably one of the most complicated curves on the car...so i had to heat the vinyl with a hairdryer and make sure it contoured to the body. Only "problem" with this placement is that it wont line up with the driving lights...so take that into consideration

Thanks for the reply.

There's an Autozone right down the street.
I'll have to give it a try.

Close but no cigar.

The solid color stripes, like you said, are for the Cooper ONLY. However, the stripes with the contrasting pinstripe are available on both the Cooper and Cooper S.

I would guess that he got the stripes for the Cooper by mistake, as the stripes he has are available for both models.

I wish I read this thread before I bought my stripes. I haven't put them on yet and am trying to figure out where to put the gap. Should I put it by the grill or up by the cowl or a little of each?

Try an auto shop that specializes in painting race cars. They usually have more experience in unique stripes. Or go with your stripe design in vinyl and have a graphics company make them. That way you can change it to something different at any time.
