Swap facelift HK door to PFL non-HK

I need to replace the passenger door on my pre-facelift, non-Harmon Kardon car. A while back I bought a nice, complete, color-matching door, but it was from a facelift, Harmon Kardon car. At the time, I figured I could just swap the speakers and with a little luck, have a plug and play puddle light solution thanks to the facelift wiring loom in the "new" door.

Now I realize that the HK speakers use different connections, so swapping the doors will be a little more complicated. I'm not optimistic that the puddle light will function when I plug the facelift wiring loom into the car, but I still need to try that. Does anyone here know?

So I'm left with a couple options: pull the original wiring loom out of the old door and swap it into the new one, or cut the wiring looms and splice in the appropriate connections to swap the speakers.

What would you do? How hard is replacing the door wiring looms? Is there something else I haven't considered?

maybe test the harness on the new door and if it doesn't work then proceed to strip it out of the old door. then you can get a little practice before you tear into the new door.

i can't tell you in advance what would or wouldn't work between the two

Pull and use the old loom. Pre and post have small annoying differences

I recently had to replace my door as well (Last weekend) and it was very easy.

Here is the video I watched, make sure you do not remove the 2 bolts on the hinge, but rather remove the 10mm on the swing arm, as shown in the following video.

I had to remove the old harness and speakers, and route the new harness in, it was pretty straight forward. I would take the harness out of the door while attached to the car, and do not be afraid to push the rubber grommits through the holes, they are pretty durable.

Have fun and good luck!

Excellent, thanks. Do you think it's easier to swap the wiring harness with the window up or down? I bought the spare door with the window lowered for ease of storage, but would connect it to power on the car to raise the window before swapping the wiring if need-be.

That's what I figured, but this is my first time messing with stuff in these doors and I'm not near my spare currently. Thanks again.
