Exhaust pops are bad?

Hey all...was talking to a tuner about adding pops with a tune and he mentioned not liking to do that because of the weak valve train? Not sure how that would effect anything.

Can anyone explain?

'12 R58 JCW Coupe - add a free flow exhaust (scorpion mini challenge) and it will pop and bang stock tune after it warms up and on sport mode... burple more like it. No need to have a pops and bang tune.
'06 R53 JCW should do this stock and with a milltek non resonated system you will hear it more. No need to have a pops and bang tune.

Thats my opinion.

Ya sorry...I tried to cut to the chase with my question without going into a ton of detail.

the one in question is the R58. It's straight exhaust. I get gunshot pops with zero tune. Lol However I had just removed a tune that had eliminated them (also caused a lot of flat spots at different rpm's that the tuner could never get out so we put the stock tune back on).

In speaking with a different tuner, we mentioned wanting to retain the pops since we lost them with the last tune, and he is the one who said with the weak valve train, he didn't recommend it.

To my knowledge, pops are just excess fuel in the exhaust detonating. So I'm just trying to understand the harm it could cause.
