R50 All Turn Signal Indicators Not Working

Hi all,

I have a 2004 R50 Mini and all my turn signals have stopped working. Front, side and rear (for left and right). Every other exterior light works fine. Inside the car the clicking sound works and the dash indicator flashes like normal. This behaviour happens with both the indicator stalk and the hazard button (and both when ignition is on or off). To put it simply: none of my turn signal indicator lights work.

I read that a cause of turn signal indicator failure can be the BCM or BC1 gets damp and starts going haywire - especially on Minis with a sunroof (which I have). I pulled the trim back and had a quick look at my BCM and I did not see any obvious water or corrosion.

What is confusing me is that every single turn signal is out. Most BCM problems I find online seem to affect only one side or one corner. I have not found anyone saying the BCM killed all turn signals while the dash still flashes. To me it would seem odd that the only BCM outputs to break would be all indicator ones.

Before I spend money on a new to me (used) BC1 I wanted to ask if anyone here has seen this before. Is there a single cable or connector that all turn signal circuits rely on that could be corroded or broken? Or something behind the footwell fuse box that is known to fail?

Any ideas on what to check next would be really helpful.

Thank you,
A fellow Mini Owner
