Aero side skirt fitment question

I have the instructions, bought clips from ECS and the adapter plate. There are no broken clips on the side skirt and everything is clipped in, yet there is a little panel gap at the door panel. It’s a hair worse on the drivers side vs passenger. Anyone have any idea on this? Maybe it’s normal.

thanks!

Weird, maybe the clip cam out of the slot it slides in? Was their ever any body work there?

Never! It seems as if the clip isn’t inserted or broke on insertion which is why the part is bowing a little. My installer pointed it out to me and told me heard the clips snap in place. There aren’t as many mounting points on the aero vs standard skirt. It has to go into storage tomorrow, wish I could address it first.

Sorry to see that happening on your aero skirts.
I have always had the exact same bow/gap in the same exact area on my stock/factory side skirts on my R53.
I never attempted to pull the skirt but it doesn't feel as if there was ever a clip in that area.
I know it doesn't help - but I feel your anguish and frustration.

Thought I'd remembered NAM forum member @Tweedbean's video on removing aero skirts, which might be helpful to clarify installation.

Yep, found it in his R53 playlist:

The stock skirts aren’t taped down. The aero skirts are taped to the sill so I’m nervous to pull it off and check if the clip is properly inserted. It would be much easier on a lift. There are way fewer mounting points on the aero vs standard skirt. I’m not sure why, it’s a bit of an anomaly. They look pretty good but I know it’s there so I’d prefer to have it sit nice and flush. My ocd is flaring up and I rushed to put them on before hibernation. Might have been smarter to wait until spring.

I have a collection of parts to go on the car after winter.

Funny, I watched that video 5 times figuring I would install them on my own. The shop that painted them told me they would install them free. I checked today and peeled back the area that is bowing and I can see the head of the retaining clip is broken. Seems like the skirt is totally fine but it has nothing to grab in. It must have cracked when they were pushing the skirts on, so it looks like I’ll need to get it reinstalled to fix the broken clip in the spring. At least it’s straightforward (ish)

Sorry to hear, but too bad. I have a solid 5-6 months of thinking about the fixes and order parts before she will see the road ße again.
