Steering Wheel Adapter Hub Problem

Aftermarket Steering Wheel Hub Problem

Anyone else have an aftermarket steering wheel hub adaptor on their R55 Clubman S?

I recently tried to add a steering wheel hub adaptor to install a momo steering wheel on my 09 Clubman S and all of the adapters I tried hit the clock spring. Am I doing something wrong? It almost feels like it needs a spacer.

Here is config:
HUB: OMP https://www.ecstuning.com/b-omp-parts/hub-bmw-e4/od-slash-1960bm789a~om/

I even purchased the NRG Mini https://www.ecstuning.com/b-nrg-parts/nrg-steering-wheel-hub-adapter/srk-minh~ngg/

Both of those adapters hit the clock spring. The NRG one even broke the clock spring which I need to replace now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you found a solution?

Same part same problem here. One thought i have is maybe there’s a dimensional difference between cars with/without MFSW and these aren’t compatible with the MFSW bits. Haven’t had a chance to test fitment on a model without but will do so soon and update with findings.

Beyond that my next move is to go to a salvage yard and hack the splines off of another steering wheel so I can fashion a spacer out of it…

as of now, all I did was purchase the ECS tuning Alcantara steering wheels which is a direct fitment with no need for adapter. It just won’t have the steering wheel removal option we wanted unfortunately.

update your finding and thanks.

I test fit the Momo hub on a few R55-60 cars and it didn’t fit any. Early production, LCI, non MFSW, MFSW… doesn’t fit any of them.

To make it work:
I hacked the splines off a spare steering wheel and made a spacer with it. It’s 9mm thick. I also took a few mm off of the Momo hub to have more spline engagement. Used a 40mm long bolt in place of the original to make up for the extra length.

Pic one is the spacer
two shows a stock steering wheel & bolt
three is the momo hub after removing some material
four is the modified Momo hub with spacer and longer bolt
five is oem bolt next to longer version
six is finished product installed
