TRW exhaust valve looks faulty

Hello everyone,

I just recently bought 8 exhaust and intake valves for my mini N14 engine from germanparts.ca. This is a supplier from Toronto Canada and I have bought parts from them before. I was checking the exhaust valves when I noticed four of them had an off center treated part on the bottom of them. If you check the picture you maybe able to tell that the bottom part where it is treated with some black material is not perfectly center. Are these exhaust valves ok to use, might they be counterfeit? At the top of the stem I see KKTRWF 539031.

Thanks

Here is a short video of the exhaust valve. You can see the unevenness better when in motion.

That black part is the surface of the metal forging, and where the valve is silver is from the machining process. As long as the stems and seats are in good condition, shouldn’t have any issues.

Ahhh! Doing cylinder head work? Have you had the seats replaced? You'll want to do that.

Great thanks for letting me know. I googled pictures of valves and all the black parts looked perfectly concentric to the outside silver part.

Yea ... been there, done that.

Valve seats tend to fall out after 1. The engine is overheated, or 2. You just had the valve seats ground.

SBI makes deeper valve seats. Here's a pic or two. I have yet to have any of these seats (properly installed) fall out.

Many machine shops don't have the tooling (cutter) for such small valves. I used Allied Cylinder Head (Atlanta, GA). They do awesome work!

Thanks for the info, but I pulled the head of just to change stem valve seals. As far as I can tell looking the valves seats they look perfectly fine.

That's what my machine shop said. After the first repair, I dropped a valve seat in cylinder 2 after 10 miles; after the second repair, I dropped seats in cylinders 2, 3, and 4. After Allied Cylinder head replaced all the valve seats with the SBI product; I haven't dropped any seats in 12k miles. Don't worry, you'll get really good at pulling they cylinder head off.

Lol yah I think I might just have to get a second engine on stand by in case this needs more repairs or even craps out.
