DIY Aux for iPod or not?
I've been wanting to do this for along time, but never have a chance to get to it. I saw several posts on how to make cheap aux input, but is it really worth it or just spend $36.00 for the real stuff? I want to build something with my hands, but what bother me is the quality
. any suggestion would be appreciated.
Cheers,
John

There is more to the aux kit than just a cable. Included in the wiring is a small circuit board that interfaces with the headunit to "activate" the aux function. If you just connect the wires to a jack and plug in an iPod, it is not seen by the headunit as an installed option.
In my opinion, it's far easier to get the 'official' aux kit and install it. Guaranteed to work, no hassles, long enough to mount the jack anywhere in the dash or consoles.

It made by Arkon and I don't know if it's a good company or not.
i've got the 3rd one also, the $38.00 one. it does exactly what i want it to do. i get no sort of static or interference noise at all. i've got the ipod mounted to that i can glance over and see it and usually set it on random of all songs. i can just reach over and feel the click-wheel and click next if a song comes up that i don't want to hear.
