BimmerCode/ESys and the Condition Based Service (CBS) System

Hello all,

I'm putting this in the F55/56 section because it's a lot more active and this specific question applies to all modern Mini's.

Does anyone know if there's a way to modify the Condition Based Service system to notify of an oil change being needed for a specific and/or lower mileage?

This was always something I had intended to look into anyway, because right now I just keep track of the odo and do my changes every 4-5k. However, my Mini dealer just sent me an email offering $225 for 3 years of unlimited oil changes BUT it's based on the CBS system in the car. So I figured I would reach out now.

If there's a way via BimmerCode (I assume this would have to be in expert mode) to change the mileage requirement for the car to consider an oil change to be needed please let me know. I'd like to get this oil change deal and actually get my money's worth, while having an actually reasonable service interval.

I also have access to ESys. I hate using it, but I will if I have to.

There's a handful of VO Codes for the oil service interval:
Oil Maintenance Interval – 30,000KM/24Months - 8KA
Oil Maintenance Interval – 24,000KM/24Months - 8KB
Oil Maintenance Interval – 24,000KM/24Months - 8KC
Oil Maintenance Interval – 12,000KM/24Months - 8KE
Oil Maintenance Interval – 20,000KM/18Months - 8KH
Oil Maintenance Interval – 15,000KM/18Months - 8KK
Oil Maintenance Interval – 15,000KM/12Months - 8KL
Oil Maintenance Interval – 12,000KM/12Months - 8KM
Oil Maintenance Interval – 08,000KM/12Months - 8KP

They're all in Kilometres, though the car will covert these to miles through the headunit. by default they have 8KA as the oil interval which converted to miles is 18,000mi/24months, these are about as specific as you can get with them, and the CBS will *still* alter the values either up or down a little bit depending on what data its getting. i have my JCW set to 8KH currently as it was a test to see how these change what the car reads and how the CBS adapts to the new interval.

Bimmercode, no, the two places that these VO Codes apply to are the DME and KOMBI, while you *might* be able to change the CBS configuration in the KOMBI with bimmercode, you can't touch the DME at all, so you'd need to use ESys for this.

I personal a 2016 M235 that I sold in February. The vehicle currently has 6060 miles. When I start the automobile, the service indicator says "6000 miles 2/2017". I believe after I offered the car, it said 9000 miles. When I use Idrive to test the oil service popularity, it says "ok" which means no oil change needed. I understand CBS is constantly adjusting to determine the oil exchange carrier stage. Am I to count on that the car is currently telling me an oil trade isn't always wanted till 12000 miles (or 2/2017)? I concept BMW went to a ten,000 mile or less oil exchange c program languageperiod in 2014 so why is the car telling me 12000 miles?

the mileage to next service that the CBS shows in the KOMBI and iDrive is mostly dependant on how you drive the car, so it could've added those 3000 miles by the time you offered the car if you'd been driving more calmly and doing longer journey's allowing the car to heat up to running temperature properly, resulting in way less stress on the engine and therefore the car said it can go longer before needing a service.

The Oil check in the iDrive system is mainly to check oil level, it doesn't do much more than that if i'm remembering right, though it could be different on the mainline BMW's (though i highly doubt it)

what the car's coded Oil interval is, is just the interval that BMW wants that car to go before an oil change, the CBS system is the deciding factor as to if it gets serviced sooner or later than that, and most new BMW's and MINI's have 8KA as their oil interval code (which as discussed above, is 30000km/18000mi or 24mnths), but the CBS, depending on how its driven, lots of short journeys, super hard driving etc. could shorten that down a LOT, whereas a lot of highway/motorway driving and longer journeys could see it easily do that 18000mi in the CBS's eyes.

I do all my own oil changes, at the 5000 mile mark (usually like clockwork, though the one I'm about to do is going to be a shade late).

Much to my surprise, after I did the last one and did the service reset, instead of saying I had 10K miles to go before the next change, it actually ticked north and said I had 11K to go.

Adding this mainly to provide a data point to back up what @Cabooshy said -- the CBS is doing its own bit of adjustment based on[list of variables] as opposed to simple interval countdown. And apparently the adjustments can go in either direction. Go figure.
