Hi all, just finish replacing the timing chain and stem valves bit car wont start after that, seems like it is trying to start but it does not, there is a click sound that never did before while turning the engine on. don't know what that is. I took the valve cover off to check the cam position and everything seems to be fine, the only thing I notice is that the flywheel lock pin did not lock the cams from moving, the very first time it did and was not able to turn it anymore. Any idea what else an I try? this is just a picture after double checking the cams position
I suspect your answer is within the question. Your cam lock tools appear to be installed correctly, if the crankshaft lock pin isn't properly engaging the hole in the flywheel such that the flywheel isn't perfectly timed with the upper lock tools, then your timing is probably off/not correct. Make sense? The lock pin needs to be engaging the flywheel, while the upper cam lock tools are in place, when the timing gear hub is removed/torqued from/onto the crankshaft. If the crankshaft was ever rotated while not being properly chained to the camshafts, the pistons could be in the wrong position relative to the valve train (4 cycle engine).
Of course, it could be something else and even something very minor, such that my other response isn't useful and may frighten you. Not my goal.
Can you provide more information on, does the engine sound like it is cranking over smoothly? Or just a click and no rotation? Precisely, when does the click occur? All information you can provide could be helpful.
