I just bought this video new a couple weeks ago, has about 400 miles on it, but this space between the rear rails and the fenders looks horrible. Is this normal? Is this just something that all minis have or is mine special?

what's your tire size ? Looks like you got "Skinny Tire" ! 205X17 is normal, I got 215/40 x ZR 18 Sumitomo HTR Z5 18" rims w/ 5mm spacers. They're 150+ mph tires.

I have 205/40. The edge of the wheels and tires are flush though, so I don’t know what a bigger tire would do

Yep, it's normal. From what I've read it's because of fender/wheel regulations in Japan.

Some people add spacers to push the wheels out a bit.

OEM tire size is 205/45-17. If your car actually has 205/40-17 ties, then that could be why they look small. You can safely run 215/45-17 tires on the OEM rims, which will fit the wheel wells a little bit better.
