Just Bought an R60

Seems pretty nice - only had it a couple of days. Keeping the R56 as well (clearcoat peeling). Perusing the board to see what could possibly go wrong and empty my wallet. It's quieter than the R56, handles pretty well, and the extra room is handy.

Congrats,

Same thing as the n14 but less problems. Water Pipe, thermostat, waterpump, valve cover, etc

On the R60 check the rear springs as they rust and can crack.

Well, I jinxed myself. Front passenger door won't open from the inside - feels like the cable is loose or disconnected, so I guess I'm pulling a door card tomorrow.

Annnnndd . . just detected the dreaded clicking at low speed turns - prob the half shafts and I'm not pulling those myself - there goes another 2000.00 +.

Well, we have a very good Mini shop here, so I just took it in and am having them do the work - this will be my wife's car, so it needs to be sorted pronto instead of when I get around to it. New CV shaft, new w. pump pulley and belt, new urethane c. arm bushings, new brake sensor, driver's door fixed so it will open from the inside, and a couple of side markers. 2800.00, but that's sorting everything that showed up on the inspection. IDK if that is steep or not any more - they have always done superior work on my other Mini, so I'm going to cough up the $$$ for the peace of mind.

Bummer, but like you said, peace of mind. Doesn't sound an unreasonable price for all that, at least where I live.

I was quoted $1400 to replace a CV that had a small tear/leak in the boot. It was an outer boot. I pulled it and replaced the boot myself fairly easily with a kit for less than $60. Nothing wrong at all with the shaft... Peace of mind is expensive at the Mini dealer for sure and sometimes you still don't achieve peace of mind (at least in my case). They quoted me several thousand more $ to fix an electrical issue causing all sorts of codes and they still didn't guarantee me, so I said no way... It turned out to be an intermittent bad main relay between the computers in the engine fuse box (luckily I found and figured this out on my own). $40 relay. The page of codes went away after the fix.

I hear you - I figured I could have done all the work myself, but this go round I needed it fast and with a warranty as my wife will be using it - so I'm biting the bullet this time. Our independent Mini shop is very good, so I at least have no uneasiness about their work - I will never take it to a dealership. Anywho, the 2007 R56 is all mine now, so between that and my 2001 Rodeo Sport I'll have plenty to do - maybe I'll make the R56 into a track car and spend my Saturdays running in to hay bales and telling lies with a bunch of old farts like me.

As I'm sure you already know since you own R56, the first thing a Mini owner must do: clean those sunroof drains behind the wheel well liners!

The R56 throwing 0420 code - the O2 sensors replaced a few months ago so I'm afraid it might need a new cat - MPG down from 35 to 34.5. Have to take the front damn near apart for that job. Not looking forward to that. R60 exhaust looks new, no codes, but I don't have detailed service records.
