After a bunch of searching I finally figured out how to lock the hatch on my new-to-me 2022 MINI 2 door: JUST WALK AWAY!

The hatch locks when the remote is away from the car, and unlocks when close again!
It also locks when the ignition is on and the doors are locked.
I tested all this myself.

I thought I had messed something up with coding options with BimmerCode.
The remote 'open' buttonwill unlock and unlatch the hatch.

Just like previous MINI's this can happen when it's in your pocket.
In BimmerCode, I'm going to set it for a 5 second push, or maybe more if possible, to help avoid the accidental opening.

Maybe another option accessible by BimmerCode to help avoid accidental hatch openings, could be, I'm paraphrasing here, "Unlatch Only When Doors Are Unlocked". I'll have to experiment now that I know what's going on, and I didn't break anything earlier, lol.

The salesman didn't tell me about this.
Next time the car is warm, lol, I'll browse through the manual to see if it says anything about this.

Maybe this thread will just be another data point for other people searching this topic.

Or, it could be just a matter of "why didn't you RTFM, idiot".

 

AH HA HA HA ! yeh, it's beyond me but if you give your Fob to someone else & have them walk away while you stand by hatch lock I imagine you could hear it engage ?

 

I don't think so. I think its electronic.

On another note, would you, or anyone, know what the stock time delay for the hatch open button is?

I set it at 10 seconds to discourage accidental opening, but then discovered the "Button Lock" in the display, that locks out the remote hatch open button!
I never use the open hatch button on the remote anyway!

So, I'd like to set the button push delay back to stock, if anyone would know what it is.

PS: I'm loving the car, even though I traded a '22 4 door for the '22 2 door. I love the sunroof, the heated steering wheel, the easier front seat access, etc.
And, just for anyone who cares, the aftermarket CD player in the glove compartment works great in this car too, lol.
