Hi
I have a paid off 2015 base mini cooper hardtop in automatic.
Is it worth to upgrade to a new auto 8speeed JCW mini cooper or auto 7sp newer S ?
I dont have any issues with the car so far, I just want more power and the new tech like better headlights and adaptive cruise control and lanekeep since I mainly commute 70+ miles a day. It's getting harder and harder every year for my commutes without those assistances since I also work long hours from early morning to late.
I have the 2023 JCW Mini Cooper and yes, it's worth it. The refreshed exterior, optional leather seating, Dynamic Suspension, ultra-smooth transmission and 228 HP make this one heck of a pocket rocket. Also, try to get the leather seats...they really are fabulous.
my 2015 S was built at factory to sit on Miami dealership's showroom floor & sell MCS. I'm happy but if I were you I'd go for new S.. I just turned 48K, I'm pretty-well optioned, perf. parts galore, lowered, hot-tuned, etc. & I'm about to turn 69, I'm goin' out in a blaze of glory !
These F series go a long way. Many on the forums with 160k+, and friends is at that mileage. So if you are 120k I'd feel no pressure. One consideration is if you don't like the 2025 style and center console all command and control infotainment you would be buying a used replacement MINI in years to come, not a new one, and it probably would not have a warranty. Another if you have iPhone the new model has Carplay. You will lose pop-burble. If you are looking for automatic, the 7 speed dual clutch is amazingly smooth in both the Cooper and S (we have both). Not had any drivability issues. The Cooper has delay at first down shifting, but i think that is as much the turbo spool up time. I recommend against the sport seat as for me (a big guy) it has too much bottom side bolster. Many recent models don't have active cruise control, alarm, Harmon Kardon, etc due to the chip shortage so be aware. The 2023 (maybe 22 not sure) has a different radio "station/channel memory" switch setup. It is a single flat plastic face over the buttons instead of individual buttons. I like it, no dirt in the nooks and crannies. On the Cooper the place under the boot (exterior) where a spare tire used to fit now has a muffler, so can't carry spare there. Subjective, but the A/C inboard vents are quite different, I prefer them. If I were you and did not like the 25' Id buy new now. If you like the 25 no hurry, but wait for a couple years of production to get the kinks worked out. MINI has a loyalty offer ($1000 off) recently from MINIUSA, and 3.99% financing that makes a large difference in payment compared to market rates. I have the cooper and it is fine as you know from yours, but the S is more fun. Good luck, keep us in the loop!
