On my recently acquired GP2 there is an unknown white button (momentary action), possibly a potentiometer. It is clearly not OEM, and pressing it/turning it doesn't seem to do much.
I started tracing the wires (2) and they seem to bundle up near the FRM. I have yet to remove the lower trim and clarify the situation, but before I do so, does this installation seem familiar to anyone ?
Mysterious after market button under dash

Because you mentioned “Momentary action” the only thing I can think of is a reset switch for your TPMS. If you had to rotate or have new tires installed, that would be the button to reset the tire light on your dashboard.
Hmm, though the TPMS seems normally reset via the stalk ? On this generation it's good old passive TPMS... I am going to go and take the trim off this afternoon to find out what the commotion is about ! @Vanski
So... nothing really extraordinary. I pulled the trim and started looking, and essentially it looks like there is a GPS tracker that was installed at some stage on the car and left in. Based on the date of the internal battery of the box I found, it was installed by the first owner most probably.
I removed the box, car seems to start fine. There was also a relay installed that seems to tap into the harness that comes above the FRM : if I remove that guy the car doesn't start. I found its schematics though, and it is the one that seems wired to the button I identified earlier. Will check what exactly the whole story is tomorrow, I probably need to pull the FRM to find out the rest of the harness.
There is a GPS/GSM antenna wiring going up behind the dash, that was connected to the box. I can tell it is not OEM but it seems to be a pain to trace it, so I might just disconnect the antenna and leave it in place. The GSM/GPS tracker The GSM/GPS Fakra connectors The wiring mess and something tapping to the relay (white wire)
I bought a used 1980 Porsche Turbo with an aftemarket burglar system. It was low quality and eventually prevented the car from starting. Ended up removing everything.
