I've recently had my dealer install the LED rally lights on my Cooper convertible with halogen headlights. I question whether the lights are aimed correctly, and concerned that the light beam from both lights looks mottled and uneven. Can anyone provide some guidance?
I've got a set of SV4 LED bulbs for the headlights, so the color temp and brightness will be consistent once I've installed them.
my Driving Lights (that go on when you hit Hi-Beam) Rallye Lights were squirrel hunting when I bought the car, so I pulled it out in a level, vacant street, turned 'em on & loosened fastener, lowered to where I liked them & re-tightened. it's all a matter of choice.
Put it on a level road & put it where you want it like you were goin' 100mph !
In my R series Clubman I had rally lights installed that were LED. They would fligher every 5 seconds or so at night when off, which was the bulb checking voltage. We turned off bulb chceking for those lights. Also, tha pattern was like a top hat. The left (DRIVER USA) side was cut off. I hated it honestly. Hope this helps.
I'll try to be more helpful...
Those light are definitely NOT adjusted correctly. At the least, they should point to the same location. I don't believe there are any left-right adjustment to the factory rally lights, only up and down. You'll need to loosen the mounting screws, adjust the height, then lock them back down. I would find a nice level location where you can get a good view of the high beam pattern, then adjust the rally lights to shine right in the middle. Ideally, you want the rally lights to shine straight down the road, with just a slight droop over their output distance. (maybe 1" droop over a 50ft distance)
That's very helpful—thank you! I'm not surprised the dealer didn't properly aim them (they weren't enthusiastic about installing them, but the bumper was coming off anyway as part of the services I was getting). They could have told me what needed to be done to aim them correctly. I found the installation instructions in another thread, and it shows the location for the adjusting screws.
Not yet. I ordered a set of led headlight bulbs from Headlight Revolution, but their online configurator misquoted the components I need. I’m waiting for the replacements. Once I get these installed, I’ll reset the aim and hopefully get a better result.
the OEM rally lights do have vertical and horizontal adjustment screws, which of course need two different tools to adjust.
