R56 Rally Light Retrofit: LED vs. Halogen
Rally Light Retrofit: LED vs. Halogen
Hello there,
I'm thinking of installing a set of OEM Rally Lights on to my 2007 Mini Cooper S. I'm leaning towards getting the LED kit but I wanted to know if anyone can share their experience with them. They are obviously a little more expensive than the Halogens but I've heard they may not be the most practical option due to their brightness (like having an extra set of high-beams).
I'm wondering if this is true and if they can be used for street use other than just pitch darkness.
Thanks!

Hi Pal. I just purchased a 2013 Mini Cooper R56 Base model and had the dealership install the LED version on my car and I must say I’m super impressed with the light output. From my understanding you can only use the when my high beams are on. I think there’s a way you can install them when on low beam but you need to wire them differently. Go for the LED one IMO. Enjoy
Thanks for the feedback. I'm probably leaning towards the LED variants if I were to go for a set of lights. However, I was talking to a Mini Service Advisor and he mentioned that the OEM mounting brackets for the lights don't have the greatest longevity due to how thin the supports are. He also says that the brackets are also subject to a lot of vibrations which can cause the nuts to shift out of place overtime.
Has anyone every experience these sort of long-term issues with these lights? If so, are there any suitable aftermarket rally lights that could be a good alternative?

LED are super bright, on a clear night they work awesome, the halogen give it the old school look and i think are better for heavy fog as they dont reflect back in your eyes as much. Yellow bulbs hep with that glare.

Turn night into day with these Hella LED Valuefit 14 led, 24 watts spots in center and floods outer! Matrix 4S LED high and low beam bulbs too........ night time Dragon runs, here we come! (Used to have 55 watt halogen driving lights on my custom made light bar)
Thank you for the input. Do you have a link for that particular product about? Also, my question was regarding the long-term durability of the kit. More specifically, the mounting brackets.
Anyone have any issues with the brackets over time?
