R56 Oil drain plug leak
Oil drain plug leak
I changed my oil and used the new gasket with the filter. after 2-3 days the plug started leaking a lot! I retorqued and it continued to leak, replaced the cooper gasket and still a minor leak.
i have a new plug and gasket coming in but im not hopeful. Any ideas?

@reddrampage ,
If in fact the oil is leaking from the drain plug, then you'll need to re-tap it(re-threader). You may have stripped the oil drain plug threads. Make sure there is no wetness on the oil pan just above the drain plug. If you're not sure, you'll need to wipe it clean and drive it.

Well, not necessarily: the copper washer makes the oil seal, not the threads. As long as you can torque it to spec (30 Nm or 22 ft-lb: use a torque wrench) then the threads are fine.
What I learned the hard way was that you really need to use a fresh Mini OEM copper washer on the R56 to get it to seal. The Mini washer has a curved profile and for some reason it needs that to seal right: the one time I tried with a standard square copper washer from the auto parts store it leaked. Put a Mini washer on and retorqued to spec and no more leaks. No idea why this is, I've changed a lot of oil and I've never had another car be this picky about the sealing washer, but that's my experience.
If you still have the old washer you can anneal (soften) it and re-use it. Heat it with a propane torch until it glows a cherry red, drop it in water to cool it, and you're good to go.

I had the same issue and it’s because I tried to use a standard flat washer compared to the oval design that the car is designed for. Here’s the P/N for oval washer. I always order 10 at a time along wi the new oil filters.
