Coolant Leak

Hey folks,

I had a head gasket issue. Its been months since Ive been able to fix and put back together. I was closing her up and topping off fluids when the coolant began leaking but it looks like from the starter? Does anyone know what the hell could cause this?

Maybe the waterpipe (aka crossover pipe) is cracked and leaking down on the starter?

Hey ECS TUNING,

I had replaced the waterpipe when I did the head gasket since the end that goes to the water pump was cracked. BUT I took your suggestion and took the thermostat out to double check my work, AND guess what. The darn o-ring had got too loose and was twisted and had broke therefore leaking on top of the starter. SO I was able to get it to stopped leaking from there after replacing the o-ring. NOW my biggest challenge was why was the coolant/water going straight to the damn oil. I FOUND THE ISSUE. I had taken the head to a machine shop and asked them to replace the 'freeze plugs', I could have sworn money that they had but I looked and the main plug that blocks the coolant from the timing chain isn't there. SO now I got to replace it. So frustrating when you pay someone to do a job and they don't do it exactly as you ask them too. Sad face. At least I know why its leaking, I was so frustrated and kind of depressed that it was leaking. I literally thought about giving up, because I thought I had a major crack in the short block. Needless to say, I'm feeling a bit more confident its just this 'freeze plug' and she'll be back on the road.

Thanks for your suggestion to look at the waterpipe. I'll update you after I put the new plugs in and fire her up!

Here is the update guys. So, I finally replaced the freeze plugs. She runs and all, but is a bit rough on idle (sometimes). My issue now is I'm getting some codes: 2D4F (camshaft position controller, exhaust, cold start) & 2F22 (engine temperature, plausibility). I've ordered a new thermostat and need to replace it. I am also going to probs redo the timing, sad face.

*I'm also getting a bit of milk in the coolant reservoir, cannot tell if it's what was leftover from inside the engine or if it's new and is mixing in the tank BUT at least the oil is clean and not mixing. I have to test if gases are coming through the reservoir to see if the head or block is cracked. :( I'm also checking the oil cooler seals, I'm hoping if I am having issues anywhere that its just this.
