Recommendations for aftermarket head unit - unique scenario
Recommendations for aftermarket head unit - unique scenario
I have a 2011 R56 Cooper S hardtop that I bought as a non-running project and brought back to life. It originally had the non-nav HK system with amp but due to some extensive wiring damage I ended up having to replace the entire wiring loom
and the replacement harness I bought off eBay was from a non-HK car. I found a base Boost stereo in the boneyard and removed all the extra tweeters (since the harness didn't have wiring for them anyway) as well as the HK amp. The stereo works, but outputs audio to the rear speakers only. I haven't changed out the door speakers so they're from the original HK package.
Since this car is effectively my college kid's ride and she has zero sense of direction I want to replace the factory stereo with something that has Android Auto so she can have maps on screen. For anyone still following along I have 3 questions:
- What's the best bang for the buck of the currently available aftermarket options?
- Since I've more or less done a HK-ectomy I assume I should just buy one designed for the base Boost system, right?
- To get the front speakers working will I just need to replace the HK door speakers with the base package speakers, or do I need to re-pin / rewire the door harness somehow?
Kind of a weird scenario and I'm guessing I'll need to do a bunch of trial and error to answer the second two questions, but any advice on the first would be more than welcome.
Thanks in advance!
