I gave an R56 N14 Mini cooper S that I am replacing the long block in. The 6 speed automatic transmission has little info available on it. Questions are 1. Is the transmission atf reservoir shares with the differential atf reservoir. 2. If separate, what is the capacity of the differential.
The engine and transmission are both out of the car now so fluid replacement should be simplified.
All searches I have tried only discussed fluid replacement in the automatic transmission

 

Hi - sorry you have not gotten any answers to this. I did a little looking and found that for the manual tranny, yes the diff and tranny share the same reservoir. I could not find anything for the auto - but think it would be the same ... just guessing. I wish I knew the answer to this one, one of my minis has an auto tranny. I'll make a few calls to the guy who rebuilt the engine, as I am sure we replaced the fluids.

Also as an FYI - the clutch fluid is the brake fluid. It shares the same reservoir.

Oh yes - another thought. Since ECS sells the atf you could ping Mike ( he is on here often - ECSTuning ) and might be able to provide more insight

 

I just talked to my engine build guy - he used factory fluid at $39/qt and verified yes on diff/tran using same fluid/common reservoir

We include the fluid for the flush amount. Some people like to do a flush twice to clean it all out. Yes the auto fluid goes through a little heat transfer unit/oil cooler.

JWS 3309 is the spec, just make sure what you choose meets that's, ours does.
