I have Mini Cooper S R56 2009.
I'm trying to understand where is the issue with my left (driver) rear fog light. I swithced the bulbs between left and right and the left bulb worked on the right side, so I know it's not the bulb. I also switched the sockets (see image attached) and the left bulb with left socket worked on the right side. What next can I check? How do I check the wires? Should I use multimeter to check the voltage on the socket? If yes, what the multimeter should read?
Yes, used the multimeter to see if you have a broken ground by doing the continuity test. You may have a corrosion on the ground. That is the first and foremost thing to check before you go any further. If there is ground by probing the plug and the chassis, have one end of the probe to the positive terminal and the other to the ground, have someone flip the switch from the inside to activate the rear fog light to see if there is any voltage. I bet you there is a bad ground somewhere. Check the wires on the body or chassis of the car. Corrosion is public enemy number ONE.
