Description: Dinan's highly successful 3rd generation MINI intake has been tweaked and a new variant engineered that supports LCI models as well as 2020+ F48/F39 BMW X1/X2's!

Like its predecessor the Dinan carbon fiber intake for the MINI/BMW transverse B46/B48 engines is tantamount to an exercise in efficiency. Given a confined space with limited options and an even smaller budget; create an intake that provides power, sound, and throttle response in an aesthetically pleasing package. While not the easiest of things to accomplish, we embarked upon the task with our team of engineers determined to provide a solution.

Through a bevy of flow bench testing, it was quickly determined that the biggest hindrance to improved flow on the stock intake was the factory snorkel. Unfortunately, the snorkel was also the piece that would cause the largest increase in cost to a potential kit. As a result, it was quickly abandoned as a potential area of improvement. Instead, attention was turned to finding a way to introduce a secondary inlet for additional airflow. With limited room to work with, traditional secondary ducting was not possible. This, in turn, led to multiple experiments being conducted on the effectiveness of a possible open-air inlet on the upper lid. With different shapes, locations, and sizes of openings being tested, the goal was to ensure that the added secondary inlet did not cause any unwarranted side effects such as an increase in air temps in the system. This is commonplace with open-air intake systems where lots of overheated engine bay air is utilized in the intake tract. The results of these tests showed that a 12 square-inch opening for additional air on the opposite side of the upper lid from the engine provided a perfect balance of additional volume to assist the factory snorkel all the while not causing an increase in turbo inlet temperatures. This was the case regardless of testing conditions (single/multiple gear pulls, constant speed, 0-100mph runs, etc.).

With more air being pulled into the system, throttle response is improved, and additional power is realized in the form of maximum gains of +12 WHP / +23 ft-lbs of torque in the low/mid-range. The secondary air inlet also allows the intake system to be more audible so the turbo spool and BOV can be appreciated. A stark difference from Dinan's traditional fully sealed systems where induction noise is not nearly as recognizable. Not to be outdone by the increased power and sound, the system is made of immaculate carbon fiber, so it looks the role as well. The result of an optimized lid, an improved filter, and thorough testing, yields an incredibly efficient and cost-effective solution that you will be hard-pressed to beat.

Features/Benefits:
  • More Power: Max gains of 12 WHP and 23 lb-ft of torque
  • Enjoyably louder, sportier sound
  • Improved throttle response
  • Large carbon fiber air box lid allows increased volume of air to be utilized taking advantage of the free flowing filter
  • Bell-mouthed side inlet creates a secondary air intake source with optimal flow characteristics and no increase in intake air temperature
  • Bolt-On Installation

FYI, the above link for product/pricing goes to the pre LCI intake. Correct link here... https://www.dinancars.com/products/i...arts/D760-0057

Also, any dyno numbers for F54 JCWs?

Link fixed. Must have copied and pasted and not realized it.

As far as the F54/F60 JCW's (306HP models) go --- they are not supported with either Dinan intake.

Bummer Any plans for F54/60 JCW goodies in the future?

Not at present unfortunately. The volume of applicable cars is small enough that the ROI is a bit tougher sell to the powers that be for tooling, etc. Holding out hope though and its one of the many projects on the MINI short list if we can get some buy-in for further development of the current gen platform.

Is the MAF diameter any larger than stock? I'm worried about using this part on a factory-tuned vehicle. Also, I see that you maintain the warranty on your inlet pipe but not this intake box, can you clarify why that happens to be the case?

MAF is the same size as stock so it plays happy with the stock ECU as well. In regards to the warranty -- same warranty applies to all hardware unless specifically indicated otherwise. That warranty would be a factory matching 4yr/50k on the part itself and when outside of the factory new car warranty a 2yr/unlimited miles. That's the real brief breakdown at least. As with all things in life there are caveats so if you wanted to delve into the nitty gritty the full breakdown of the warranty can be found at https://www.dinancars.com/dinan-warranty/.
