Cooper S - ignition coil lifespan?

Basic question, one part curiosity and one part "I hate the prospect of trying to figure out if one is going but not gone" -- how long do you expect your ignition coils to last? What interval would you replace them on?

Before anyone says "check the owner's manual" or "Google the websites" it's not in the owner's manual, and I've already Googled the websites, I want to know what YOU do with respect to YOUR F-series Minivroomer and how YOU are making that decision

Thanks!

@cjv2, no idea mileage wise however, if one is causing a misfire maybe it’s best to replace them all as preventative maintenance

I know my neighbor replaces them and the spark plugs every ten thousand miles.

Question for you: Have you heard anything good about Dinan coils?

Have a great week and motor on -Rich

Every 10K miles?!?!?! Yowsa!

I have not dug into Dinan coils (or any others, specifically) but when nosing around in discussions I see their name come up -- in general -- in a positive context.

I would replace them the same time as the plugs. They're cheap and you're already removing them, so why not.

I was beginning to lean this way. Have only done 1 plug replacement on mine (I am the 2nd owner) and was considering this approach for round 2, etc. Do you have any particular prefs/recommends for a brand?

Ignition coils are one of those things that could last over 100k miles, or fail at 10k miles. There is no maintenance interval with them either. In the aircraft industry, the service interval would be “on condition” or when it fails. If you’re getting a misfire, pull and replace them all.

I run our Bav Auto ones for my R58 working great as the OEM ones like to fail, some guys here on running them on the BMW B series engines fine. They are shared with MINI. https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2014-...gine/Ignition/

I would do all at once, I would not do one at a time unless you are going to keep it all OEM. But I swear I had one go bad, replaced one and then shortly down the road on the R58 another one of the Genuine MINI ones failed. Its was cylinder 3 at the time then number 2. Good time to check the plugs and replace them also. Thats pretty much all to replace as their are no wire or boots like the older MINI.

I would definitely do all 4 at the same time. But I would throw plug life into equation too..
