AC Question

2007 Cooper S

AC worked perfect going to work this morning, temp was about 85. Coming home temp was 105 and the AC was dismal. It blew some cold but mostly warm air. I got the feeling the compressor was kicking out more than on. Operational low pressure was in the high green area, and static pressure was about 130 on the Autozone cheepy fill gauge. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Appears that the unit was somewhat over-charged, and with the high temps (105) that day it created extremely high pressure in the system shutting down the compressor. Bled some freon off and now working perfectly.

Yep they can be overcharged. It must have been charged too much and then the high heat pushed it over. When its a normal temp and engine is cool. Test the system with a gauge.

The spec for R-134a refrigerant in your car is 1.08 lbs; too much or too little will kill system performance. Many things can prevent the AC from functioning properly; adding more refrigerant is not the first step. You need to have a proper gauge set and someone who knows what they are doing to properly analyze the system.

Most of the AC repairs I've done in the past 2 months have been compressor changes, but I did have one with a plugged receiver drier (rare) last week.
