Warranty Question

I posted this in the regional to see if anyone there has had the same experience, but there were no responses, so I'll check here.

Last August my F54 experienced a failed HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump), had it towed in to the dealer, they confirmed "Yup it needs to be replaced"... Cool, my car was in warranty and it was warranty work. Done, Golden, car works and drives.

Warranty expires shortly after that work was done.

Fast forward to two days ago. Car sputters, dies, and has a hard time staying started. I paid to have it towed the the dealer. Dealer confirms Yup looks like the system is reporting an issue with the HPFP... Ok. It has been less then a year since it was originally replaced, I put less then 3k miles on it since last August. Service advisor calls me yesterday afternoon to let me know that because it was repaired under warranty that they can't warranty the work or part. If I had paid out of pocket last August then they could warranty the part.... WTF? In what world does that make sense that a Purchased Part carries a warranty, but a Warranty Part doesn't carry a Warranty?

Just wanting to see if anyone else has had this happen to them?

That seems to be the standard. I just had a battery replaced under a three year free replacement, 2 years into the warranty. My warranty on the new battery is still only for the remaining period, one year. After three years, no more warranty. I would expect, that's the same line of thought that the dealership is using. Your warranty has expired. Doesn't matter if they replaced something within the warranty period. Once warranty for car is over, it's over.....

My question is why the replacement pump failed so soon. Perhaps there's another issue that the dealer failed to detect during the original warranty repair. If this is the case, then failure to make a proper repair while the car was still under warranty comes into play.

I think a very friendly conversation with the service manager, without making any accusations, but raising the question regarding pump failure possible due to another issue, seems like a good place to start.

Surely there is a reasonable resolution lurking here somewhere.

I would think that at least the part would be warrantied. I thought it was for 2 years? Maybe it is only on parts you actually pay for? That's pretty crappy, if that's how it works. Maybe the dealer will meet you halfway on price?

2 years unlimited miles on the parts is what MINI has said in the past, guess its case by case at a dealer service level. Maybe its the part but not the service.

You can get the part from Bosch now (OEM supplier) for far less then Genuine MINI

Fuel filter??
I always replaced a fuel filter when replacing pump. When I worked on GM cars.
