How hard to install OEM roof rack without installation tool
I'm looking to buy used OEM roof rack, but it doesn't come with any installation tools. I believe there are 2 tools. One to attach the rack to roof, the other one to tied down the bolt (cheap torque wrench).
I don't really care about the torque wrench, but little worried about the attaching tool.
How difficult to install without the tool? The tool is discontinued and impossible to find anywhere.
Also, to install the rack, I need to cut out a bit of weather strip. After the rack is removed, there is a cover which is also discontinued. How important the cover is? Is it something must have?
Thanks!
The torque wrench is handy, but probably not required. The hook tool for pressing the rack into the catch hole is required for assembly. You might be able to find an installation kit on eBay, but a competent owner should have the tool kit when selling the rack.
Does this roof rack apply to all trim levels of the R56? My base model doesnt seem to have indication it has cover caps that I can remove to slide in the racks. It seems to be one continuous piece.

There are perforations in the weatherstrip. Read the instructions and it tells you where to look for and find them.
You don't absolutely need the tool to install the rails, It's supposed to compress the mount feet as you install it into the drip rail, but it can be done without it. There are a bunch of youtube videos on the installation as the instruction booklet is a bit hard to decipher

Thanks. Yeah. I saw the couple videos in youtube and the installation tool is nice to have, but not "needed". I'll give it a try!
Finally got it installed with bike rack.
I must say this was one of the most difficult cross bar I've ever installed.
Mostly because I bought this bar used and worn out threads in the tie down nuts, ended up using washer with m6 nut instead.
