Line input for XM

I've noticed that I can't crank the stereo as loud when I am using XM. CDs and radio I can crank way up till it hurts, but the XM barely goes loud enough to be heard over open windows.

Is there a Line Level setting for the XM like there is for the Aux input?

Tell us a little about your XM setup. Is it XM Direct or are you using a Plug and Play radio?

My Blaupunkt Sirius plug and play radio does have an internal output adjustment.

It's an XM Direct module routed through the Blitzsafe module. Stock H/K HU.

Sorry, I have no experience with that system. However, recalling what I have read, I don't remember any place where you could change the input level of the system.

Hopefully someone experienced with XM direct will chime in shortly.

I didn't realize you could turn up the input volume. The XM plays at the same volume as the tuner. I am using the xmdirect with blitzsafe adapter.

I have a similar issue. I loked at the XM Direct box and I can see no where to make the change from the outside.

One thing to keep in mind is if you have th eH/K, do not turn the bass or treble above halfway or the H/K amp will cut the level down automatically, I guess to protect the speakers from damage?)

I've turned the bass on the H/K nearly off as I think the HU puts out too much bass.

When I did the install there were 2 connectors already there in the MINI that plugged into the Blitzsafe unit. I did not see anything in the instructions posted somewhere around here about 2 connectors. Did everyone plug in both?

I have never heard of a low volume issue with our interface. I would say to try this. Disconnect the audio from the XM tuner and connect another audio source. Leave that source at a fixed volume. Crank up the stereo and switch to cd and see if there is a difference. If it seems louder then the XM audio, then you could have a problem with the Xm tuner. If you run into the same issues, then it could be a interface issue. Let me know what you find.

I have a Sony XM tuner and I can adjust its output. Does your XM tuner have an adjustable output? My tuner was not maxed when I received it.

Marc -- Just to be clear, you are suggesting disconnecting the wires leading from the Blitzsafe to the XM tuner. Disconnect them on the XM tuner side and connect to another source. Right? What other source could I use? I am at work currently so I can not verify the cables.

andromcs -- Far as we can tell there is no screw/****/adjuster to alter the output level of the XM interface. Oh, you mean the tuner itself and not the Blitzsafe module. Hmm, will have to go look.

No it's not the XM Direct or the Blitzsafe, it's the H/K running out of pre-amp gain. This is basically the volume control, not actual amplifier output. Soooo, CD's that aren't mastered up to 0dB and compressed to all hell, low output radio stations, and many of the XM channels don't provide enough line level signal to get full-power out of the amp.

I have many older classic CD's that are mastered quite low (-10dB, etc.) and even at "full volume" on the h/k, they're barely above conversation level Stupid H/K!

This probably has nothing to do with XM direct, but I’ll mention it anyway. I have a XM Delphi, SkyFi and in the menu there is definitely a line level adjustment. The default setting is at one half of its range.

Is there no menu on the XM direct unit?

There are a couple settings you can get to by holding the "note" button down while in satellite mode, but I am not positive what they do.

Rye-- I figured it might be something like that, so was hoping there was a line input adjuster.
