R52 Chirping from the rear when driving
Chirping from the rear when driving
Anyone have any experience with a chirping sound coming from the rear while driving? Seems to be road educed. It's a high pitch tweet like sound. Metal on metal. Can't pinpoint it. Seems to be coming from both sides. Top up or down. Passengers or no passengers. I checked the rear seat strike plates but the latch is plastic so don't think that would be it. I shook the seats and could not get the same sound.
I just replaced the rear shocks. I can't recall if it made the sound before. I've only had the car a week.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I lowered the back seats. It was louder. So I'm assuming something coming from the boot area. But it's clearly road bump related. If it's perfectly smoot no chirping but every little bump chirps. I'm going to have my wife drive it and I'll stick my head back their to see if I can isolate it.
possible rear brake pads moving in the caliper if you have disc brakes on the rear. If drum brakes, possible broken spring inside drum. Does the noise go away when you apply the brakes while it's making the noise?
Put some lube on number #9 on left and right sides, upper and lower. It could also be the #7 bushing.

Thank you for the info. It is for sure coming from something suspension related. I had the top down yesterday and I could hear it from the "outside". I ordered new sway bar bushing, and sway bar links.
When I changed the rear shocks I used the power flex poly bushings. Do you think those squeak?
