I got quoted $300 by a local muffler shop (Kentucky) for muffler delete + new tips. Is that too much? Seems little high even in today's market.
I called several muffler shops and they would not even do it. How much does this job usually cost?

Really, see if you can find a welding shop that will do it for you if you bring them some tubing. The worst part would be adding the hanger rod. Something like this should be a piece of cake for any welding shop.

 

Thanks for the reply. I might have to look into a welding shop. This particular muffler shop is a performance oriented so they know what they're doing hence why they probably charge so much. So you think $300 is too much?

 

Rather than $300 to remove a muffler, why not instead apply those $$ to a cat-back for DIY install? You might wish you had otherwise, depending on resulting noise levels. Check forum sponsor websites for products that suit your total budget, while factoring additional cost subsequently if you're not satisfied after removing that muffler.

 

It would cost a lot more than $300 to do a quality cat-back. I just wanted something quick and cheap to make the existing sound a bit louder. They recommended muffler delete and I liked some of the muffler delete videos I've heard so far.

 

If that 300 bucks includes the tips, they are nice tips, and they do nice solid work, I would think 300 isn't too far out of line. Costs are going up in lots of categories lately.

 

They do have some nice tips. He said I can pick a set, within a reason. We'll see what he meant by "reason"
