R56 Gs6 - 53bg vs gs6 - 55bg
Gs6 - 53bg vs gs6 - 55bg
Hey guys. I was going to buy some parts from fcp.
Its asking if I have a 53BG or 55BG transmission. I have no clue what this means. Never came up on the other two minis I owned.
I have a 2010 cooper S hatchback, 6 speed, n14.
What does this transmission specification mean?
Thanks.
Edit: I have the 53bg. I entered 2009 when selecting parts by accident. Please delete this thread. I don't know how to.

Manual transmissions used in Mini R55, R56, R57, R59 and R59:
GS6-55 BG - One and Cooper - Getrag says G255 (6MTT170 family)
GS6-53 BG - Cooper S, JCW and GP - Getrag G253 (6MTT280 family)
GS6-53 DG - One D, Cooper D and SD - Getrag G253 (6MTT280 family)
G = "Getriebe" = gearbox or transmission
S = "Schalt" = manual (transmission)
6 = number of speeds
55/53 are just Getrag's and BMW's model numbers for these gearboxes
B = "Benzin" which means "gas"
D = Diesel (taller gearing, some reinforcements)
G = name of the transmission manufacturer = Getrag (probably "A" for Aisin and "Z" for ZF)
6MTT170 says it's a six-speed manual transmission for transversal fitment and capable of 170 Nm of input torque.
All are factory filled with BMW MTF LT-4 75W-90 GL-4 except for some earlier MCS fitted with the optional LSD option.
IMHO FCP should have known all this.
