Hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. I’ll try to keep it short.
Lost 3 qts of oil on drive home. Oil from as high as approximately bottom of the head, all on right side. Oil under car and down complete passenger side and back doors.
Added oil and started, No noises.
Added dye to oil and cleaned all old oil from engine/paint.
Can’t find a leak anywhere now!
I replaced the timing chain tensioner because that made the most sense to me but I don’t know that the old one was bad. Also changed belt, tensioner and friction wheel while I was there.
I’m scared it’s going to happen again and don’t know where to look next.
Anyone have ideas?

Look at the front crank shaft seal

This was the first thing I looked at. Is it physically possible for the seal to dump that amount of oil so quickly?
I guess also, is the front seal and the tensioner the only places that can cause that kind of leak on the right side of motor?

 

You be surprised at how much oil can get pushed out of that seal when the crank is spinning. How far did you drive and notice that amount
of oil lost... Have you noticed any oil leaks around the oil cooler... Clean the area off with some brake cleaner and put the car on some jack
stands and check the areas while the car is running...

 

I did all of this and still can't see any leak. Planning to take it to a local shop and see if they can find it

 

On the plus side of things:

The car will never rust the length of the car underneath the passenger side!

Seriously though, I hope you found the issue and it is now resolved.

ultimately the problem ended up being the pcv valve.
