JCW Tire Choice?
Tire Choice?
Hey everyone,
I have a question about tires. I run dedicated winters but am needing a set of either all-seasons or summers. I need them in 225/35/19 and am partial to Michelin or Continentals and I will not be using RFT's (boooooo lol). I was wondering what experiences you folks have had. I worry about tire wear with summers as tire options are not cheap.
Thanks in advance.

Since you have a winter set, I strongly
recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
If that’s too pricey, the Continental
ExtremeContact Sport is a bit cheaper
and almost as good.
They’re both fantastic dry and wet
summer tires with reasonable wear.

Thanks for the input folks. I looked up the DWS and they don't have it in a 225/35/19, go figure. I will look and see what Michelin offers as an all-season and compare their summer offering with the Extremecontact...
I originally had the Continental Extreme Contact Sport (Max performance summer) and loved the traction, responsiveness, smoothness and wear (31,000 miles); however, I found that they were very squirrely under hard acceleration on the highway. I replaced them with a set of Continental DWS 06 all-seasons and was really disappointed in that they were quite a bit noisier and harsher, although handling was good. After 5,000 miles I replaced them with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and I absolutely love everything about them ... they are definitely the best on a relatively high-power front drive car.
No love here for Nittos. I'm surprised. Running 205 40 on Miss Girl and while heavy rain will have you reaching for the DSC switch, they stick like glue and run soft and quiet when dry or light rain. Good value at under 90 bucks.

225 or 235?
This is all great info and I want to keep an open mind and consider more brands for sure. I had Nitto's on my R53 way back and they were pretty good at that time. I also had a question about tire size as I will buy all-seasons very soon as the Advan's might get in this Thursday. I know on the stock wheels I have 225/40/18's but when I search online for wheels (tirerack foe example) and I select the (+1) 19 inch option, it just lists 235/35/19 as the recommended size. As per Mini, what is tire size you on the OEM 19 inch wheels? Where it is still an 8 inch wide wheel I assumed 225 was still ok and would be a pretty squared off sidewall with that fitment.
I’d go with 17 or 18 inch wheels
rather than 19.
The tiny sidewall doesn’t help
performance, and sacrifices wheel
durability and increases ride harshness
and wheel/tire weight unnecessarily.

I totally agree on having a harsh ride on 1 19 versus a 17 or 18 inch. I ran 18's on my 2017 F54 JCW and it felt a bit squishy in corners and I didn't like the aesthetic as much with 40 series rubber.
