Auto transmission fluid change

Color of old fluid at 25k miles.

New RedLine D6 fluid.

Color of trans fluid after.

I changed the auto trans fluid in my 2018 F56S 6 speed today at just over 25k miles. The original fluid was quite dark. I got almost 3 quarts out, put 3 quarts of RedLine D6 back in, ran the car for a minute or two engaging each gear a few times, then drained a few ounces out just to see how much better it looked. I think it looks a lot better, but might just do another drain and refill at my next oil change which is 4500 miles away. I didn't feel any noticeable difference in the shifting after the fluid change, but it seemed to be working just fine before, so I really didn't expect a difference. Not sure how many miles MINI/BMW/Aisin thinks this fluid is good for, but I feel better with fresh(er) fluid in there. At least it LOOKS better, LOL!

That color is typical, its clutch pack material wearing down, but I do agree to not leave it in for a lifetime!!

I'm thinking of doing mine at 30K, too soon?

Also, thinking of using the OE Mini fluid via ECS Tuning.

I'm gonna throw this # out there. IMO 100K mi. would be a good, round #.

Hi... I'll proceed with the automatic gearbox oil chance, but what about the oil filter? I'm looking for this part everywhere and no one seems to have it available or know the part number for the oil filter...

Any help please?

No filter for the Gen 3, its pretty weird i guess you just change it more often. Its has a side pan also stamped out which we can get on its own. Sealed with sealant.

Sometimes when people take off the oil pan they bent the flange, since the factory one is sealed pretty tight.

Sealant crosses to

Dirko Gray Silicone Sealant - 70mL

Thats the overflow pipe:

Screw plug for overflow pipe.

This looks like the fill plug on the top.

Doe anyone have a picture where the fill and drain plug is of a 8 speed automatic transmission for Mini JCW (2022)?
I have found a picture of a 8 speed automatic transmission (GA8G45AW) that is used in the latest Mini JCW.
Is this correct where the fill and drain plug is located?

Yes, on that diagram you have identified the fill and the drain plug. Looks to be the same basic setup as the AISIN GA6F21WA.

Make sure you replace the seals on any and all plugs you remove.

Changed out my automatic fluid on my 2018 MC S at 70K miles. Purchased used with 68K miles in July. There was a big differents in fluid color. Transmission seems to shift smoother after the change. I found the instructions of how to perform the change on another site.

New vs old automatic trans fluid

I don't disagree that this is a reasonable interval, but what's your source? BMW says "it's lifetime forever forever!" so the source wouldn't be them...

So - before the days of "immortal ATF" standard interval you would find all over the place was 60K. So that tracks.

And having done another change -- of a bit under 1/2 capacity because you can't drain it all out w/o disassembly -- 15K after my last under-1/2-capacity change... the fluid still needs turnover so, yeah. The color was better than the first time (101K) but you get the idea. This is definitely something I'm going to be assertive about, timingwise, for a while.
